Fluke 45 and Eminent (PL-2303) USB to Serial converter

Hey guys,

After several tries, I cannot connect with my fluke 45 using RS232.
As I don't own a nullmodem cable I use a converter from eminent.

As i also don't own the software disk from fluke itself, I wanted to ask the question if it is possible at all to use FVF-SC2 (torrent download) with a fluke 45?

Also the free fluke 45 serial application (from the internet) I cannot get to work.
I have set up the meter as fluke suggests with Baud to 9600, parity NO, echo OFF, and print to 0.
I tried on two computers running XP and Win7.

Can anybody help me?

the software has no protection at all. so i dont think it would be different. cheaper test solution then buy it and it wont work

A null modem cable reverses the TX and RX connections. If the device expect a null modem cable, then this might be your problem.

Try using a serial console program like PuTTY to communicate directly with it. Assuming it's SCPI compatible, *IDN? should return the model number and serial. Also check the settings on the DMM, you can probably switch between RS-232 and GPIB (if available) and set baud rate and other serial parameters.

Got it sorted today!

It was indeed not a proper connection.
Borrowed a null modem cable from work, and it worked perfectly.
I tested directly on the computer serial port.
The PL2303 might be tested another time with a null modem cable.

Solved.
