TDS7404 Software Not Launching, "A." Code

Good afternoon.  I have a TDS7404 that recently stopped loading the oscilloscope software.  The windows install still functions properly, but the software hangs on the initial screen that appears on first launch. I opened up the machine and saw that it cycles through ".8 4 5 6 7 8 9 A A.", and hangs on "A.". According to the service manual we found online, that indicates the NVRAM ones test failed, but I'm not sure how I should solve that. I saw some people solved this issue (with different cycle of code) by replacing the battery on the Power PC board, but I'm not sure if that's causing our different error code. Do you have any suggestions of how to fix this? We tried to get at the PowerPC board but the board on top for some reason wasn't coming out, so we couldn't access the board below.
