Front panel PC software for Kesight DMM
« on: May 04, 2017, 09:28:57 pm »
Hi,

I have a Kesight 34461A DMM and a Rigol DP832 PSU. The DMM has wonderful looking stable software, but at a price the PSU has free simple software. I use the Rigol software as an extension of my arm as it is simply a reflection as to what is on the front panel of the unit. But the Kesight software, BenchVue operates in a different way. I have now issue with these points.

I cannot see on the web a software tool for emulating the front panel of the DMM on a PC and wondered if anyone new of one, even if it is third party (and hopefully free).

The reason I am asking for free is that I will only be using this feature for a short time before the equipment is purposed in a situation that does not need the software.

Thanks,

Ross

The 34461A has a built-in web server with a simple UI that should do everything you need with no software install required.

Just connect through the LAN port, point your browser to it and you're done.
Well, almost. You need to install java, use IE (not Chrome or Edge), disable popup blockers and possibly fight with IE and/or Java security settings, but it's straightforward otherwise.

Screenshot below.

It is really, really handy as it can also run in "observe only" where you can remotely monitor the current state and not interfere with front panel operation or USB/LXI command streams from an automated operation.
