Uni-t UT-61E Modification Alternatives, Rechargeable
« on: September 25, 2019, 11:23:24 pm »
It seems that a lot off modifications with this Multimeter is of course related to the 9v battery and its current consumption. Auto power off modification, or adding back light LED , or many others is considering the current draw and how long before replacing the 9V battery.

One alternative might be a 7.4 Li-po or Li-ion battery that is commonly used in drones and other toys. Almost same size as 9v, permanently mounted, with the charging port accessible.

Ut61e battery warning light turns on around 5.5v. and accuracy of the meter is very good all the way down to 3V.

I wanted to get your opinion on this idea !!

There are a lot of rechargeable "9V" (2 cells in series) Lipo/ion batteries on Aliexpress/eBay. searching "9V rechargeable lithium" should bring up several results. in the PP3 form factor(Regular 9v battery).

In many years I used that multimeter, I don't remember if and when I replaced the battery and I never left it turned on...

Li-ion batteries don't need to be kept in charge, because their auto-discharge is very, very low.
