Tektronix 7603 broken pin off horizontal amp to CRT
« on: May 02, 2020, 09:23:01 am »
Hi Tektronix fans,

While restoring, repairing, a Tektronix 7603 mainframe, the pin from the horizontal amplifier to the CRT broke off.
It looks that these pins have some spring action and are gold plated.
Obviously I want to replace the broken pin with a similar pin that does not damages the CRT.
Any suggestions?

Thank you,

Pascal

Do you mean the CRT pin broke off?

They are made of something like kovar which matches the temperature coefficient of expansion of the CRT glass.

Conceivably you can clean the exposed end of the pin and solder some thin compliant copper wire to it to make that connection.

Thank you for your reply,

no, it is not a pin at the back of the tube.
The tube is undamaged.
It is a hole in the glass at the side of the tube wherein a pin, attached to a wire from the horizontal amplifier, fits.
That is the pin that is broken. (see second picture of the good one and the broken off on)
The hole has a diameter less than a millimetre, (see other picture, scale is in millimetre).
