So I'm missing my Fluke 87V and happened to see quite a few for sale on an auction site from various unrelated sellers all with 2014 manufacturing dates.

The only genuine reason I can think of is some kind of legislation regarding expiration of inventory after 10 years, perhaps government / industry legislation?

I'm really fancying one but I'm a bit twitchy about the whole thing.

Can anyone elaborate who has an idea why this may occur?

Stu

Probably a government agency had a huge stockpile of them and they auctioned them off recently.

Your tax $$$ at work.

Nah, some military guy wrote a new test procedure on how to test coin cell batteries.
In it he specified the multimeter used was a Uni-T UT33+, rendering all the 87V's obsolete.

The batterys are flat, compared to the the cost of carrying out a risk assessment on live working ,writing a method statement on how to change the battery and carrying out an environmental study on the safe disposal of the battery  it works out cheaper to buy new.
