Tripplett 4800
« on: June 15, 2013, 07:11:52 am »
I just bought a Tripplett 4800 for $25 on ebay.  It seems to have a lot of capabilities that my tenma doesn't (though I like the tenma and plan on keeping it).  I thought the price was great no matter what, but I'm curious about your thoughts.

The seller said that most functions work, but the buttons are getting hard to press, so I figure that should be something that's not too difficult to fix or retrofit.

After a quick look at the specs I'd say $25 for that thing is a steal - if it works.

That thing has some funny features, like an auxiliary 12V, 50mA power supply output, comparator relay output or an input for a touch and hold probe. And it has a resolution down to 10uV DC and 10nA DC. Nice!

Edit: Specs say it has an internal battery. Second thing I would do is to check that battery (first thing would be to have a look at the power supply caps, just in case).

I delete PMs unread. If you have something to say, say it in public.

Yeah, I hope it works or is repairable, looks like a good piece of equipment to add to the bench.

So I received it today, and put it through its paces.  Few of the buttons worked.  On taking it apart, I found that the carbon on the buttons had worn out.  One trip to home depot and some aluminum foil tape later, and works a treat, as Dave would say. :)

I like it!  Beauty!

Yes, sure.  I'll start a new thread for that.
