Agilent/HP 8664A
« on: January 02, 2021, 09:55:51 pm »
Hello,

for those who are having an error 5030,xxx I rewrote the code in python, the code is from the Service manual. I will post it after a clean up to git something.

If anyone is having this document somewhere, it would help 08645-90024. I am dumping all the mux Voltages too, and right now some of the DIAG GPIB code is a bit unknown...

I managed to get the great +0 result after special function 320 !!!  Happy camper.  8664A Option 004 008, soon to be 8665B when I get the roms

Happy new year.

hi,

Did you post the Python code & procedures for your HP 8664a ?
If so, can you post the web link for download ?
I would like to try to use them for the HP 8665b 6GHz Signal Generator.

I  recently purchased  a HP8665b with ROM version 4.2.2
I am not familiar with it, yet.

It has some issues, and I am trying to determine what is wrong with it.

1) The Right-side VFD display does not light up, so I can't set nor read Amplitude values.
2) as a result of the bad display, I can't tell if there is an Rf O/P or not.

3) After power On, a self-calibration starts up on the Left-hand display.
After several long minutes the display states: "Result  8,043,311" and
   then displays: "hardware failure" .

after a few moments displays "1.5 GHz".
I can change the frequency, using the front panel controls.

I have gotten the cover off ( single piece steel case; ~ 30 Torx screws ).
that is as far as I have gotten today.

4) I will be measuring PS voltage values soon.

I just found a .pdf  service manual online tonight with some PS circuit diagrams, mechanical
& some diagnostic, but no Assembly (module) circuit diagrams.
For HP
    https://literature.cdn.keysight.com/litweb/pdf/08645-90145.pdf?id=88786

I don't see any reference to a battery inside the instrument.
Is there one ?

I'd appreciate any insight you have if we can discuss as I go along ?

Do you have any schematics as .pdf's that you can share ??

thank you,
r

Hello,

8,043,xxx without a plus or minus can be a blessing or a pain.

Before opening the case:
- Let it warm up 30minutes
- Check if you have a 10MHz behind the unit, if you do it may just be a recal
- Run the MW Loop adjustment and check the values (without playing with the pots)
- Try the 171, might not work without the dip switch set

Open the case
- Flip the switch 1 , closest to the back of the 4, to allow you to run the IDL
- Lift the A14 15 16 slot cover
- Measure the power supply at the I/O board, back right partly hidden under the 40 pin flat ribbon, I bet those are OK since you got the 8,043,xxx
- MW Loop adjustment, do it again
- HF Drvr adjustment
- Check all of the smb sma connectors for loose ones
- 171 recal Go back to MW Loop a couple of times
- Clear all messages
- Clear all memory

Special 320 and take all failures one module at the time

I have a Check module in my repo, at the end of the service manual you should have most of the values for each MUX, check agains't them if you still have a fail somewhere, post it here and let's sort it out. Not all modules are there but I can make / add modules if you find failures elsewhere.

Get the +0, close it all up, re test and it should be good. Redo all tests and check the MW Loop values

The only thing missing for my 8665A to be a 8665B to work is a set of ROM... Looking for a "cheap" unit on ebay...

This is my repo of GPIB bits , you may need gpibeth.py in your path to import it

One of the document that would help a lot is 08645-90024 I think it would help a lot the 86xxx series signal generator owners...

hi tchiwam,

I tried the URL that you provided:
https://github.com/tchiwam/GPIB

I also tried:
https://github.com/tchiwam/gpibeth.py/GPIB
&
https://github.com/tchiwam/GPIB/gpibeth.py

but all failed to locate your web site !!

- I do not understand what you meant by:

" This is my repo of GPIB bits , you may need This is my repo of GPIB bits , you may need gpibeth.py in your path to import it

https://github.com/tchiwam/GPIB in your path to import it "  ??

Can you provide the correct path so that I can get the Python GPIB code ?

thank you,

Can't find the 90024 MAN.
sigh.

From the Keysight website,  can get:
Operation and Calibration Manual HP Part 08645-90023.

I see other, non obtainable manuals:

Service Diagnostics Manual HP Part 08645-90104
Microfiche Operation and Calibration Manual HP Part 08645-90026
Microfiche Service Diagnostics Manual HP Part 08645-90028

Let me know if you get .pdf's

thank you
