Agilent DSO1052B + TEKTRONIX - TDS1001C-EDU
« on: March 20, 2013, 09:09:53 am »
I was looking at Farnell and saw this from Agilent:  http://uk.farnell.com/agilent-technologies/dso1052b/oscilloscope-50-mhz-2-channel/dp/2094428
at 510 UK pounds

and the Tektronix http://uk.farnell.com/tektronix/tds1001c-edu/oscilloscope-40mhz-2-ch-500ms-s/dp/1877497 at 530 UK pounds.

Considering the OWON SDS7102V costs around 400 UK pounds, has anyone here tested or used the Agilent or Tektronix to tell us of its quality?

I wouldn't recommend either. The Agilent is a rebadged version (with some minor firmware changes) of an older Rigol scope, and is manufactured by Rigol. Might as well buy the Rigol  DS1000E series, then. The TDS1000 series is a rehash of the twenty year old TDS-200 series. Its 2.5 kpoints of memory is several orders of magnitude below the current standard (1+ Mpoints). Quality is OK, but specs are just not at all competitive anymore.

Both are way overpriced for what they offer, in my opinion.

Ah, I did not know all that. I thought that "Agilent" and "Tektronics" meant "instant quality".

TDS1001C-EDU is OK for simple measurement at school (8 hours usage per day), but not suitable for a serious hobbyist.
Amazing machines. https://www.youtube.com/user/denha (It is not me...)

I own a Rigol, it was this forum that made me decide to buy it. I'm very satisfied with it, so if now Agilent and Tektronics rebadge that, they indeed sell quality products.
If you try and take a cat apart to see how it works, the first thing you have on your hands is a nonworking cat.
