Reasonable price of a 3456A
« on: December 08, 2018, 10:44:38 am »
I have a piece of string ...

Sorry...

What might be a reasonable price of a 3456A DVM in an ordinary condition?

Working, not calibrated.

100$ maybe? Depends how fast you want to sell/buy it?

I don't, not my league, but ebay is filled with 'em. No problem to get one, just pay shipping.  :-//
Saying "working" but not calibrated, means same good as "maybe it's working in theory, but I have no idea/proof".

Searching on eBay US, I see a number of sold 3456A's for around or under $100, so that seems a fairly normal price to me. I imagine the prices in Australia (or Germany) will be higher. US price + shipping from US to wherever might be a decent ballpark.

I got one for $101 shipped and another for $128 shipped in 2017 (Ebay in the US). Both work.

They're big and heavy, so shipping ends up taking a bite out of the deal, and if the shipper doesn't get good rates or marks the rate up, it gets worse.)
One sold earlier this morning for $111 shipped. (That one was close enough I may have gone up and picked it up if I needed it and saved the $41.)

So outside of US, it's nothing actually working on less that trice the price.
I even found this defective US one for 88$ and a moderate  $668.89 UPS Worldwide Saver !!!

OK, did find one for 100, with a reasonable shipping $104.20 :

So now the OP should tell that it's from Germany and he'll get my 100EUR >:)

I got mine via ebay-germany for about 250€ i think, which is an okay price. They are very stable and nice instruments, but sadly lack the interesting 7. digit via GPIB without hacking it. Maybe a 34401A is more up your alley DC1MC, they have 7 Digits via GPIB, can be very linear (0.2ppm) and cost about 300-400€ used. Also they appear very often on ebay.de.

@ echo88  I did manage to get an 34401a from Ebay, the drawback was the front and rear pables ere damaged, but selfs tests ok

They were kind enough to give me the fw revision ... for us to canada it was around 60$ usd .... i was tempted by the 3456 before the 34401,  but as all of you knows, the shipping fee's can get pretty high ...

+USA uses 60Hz, Australia 50Hz and Your 3456A must have proper Hz option.
If it doesn't match forget about stable last digit.

Very interesting.
I took a pic of the back panel of one of mine (the other looks the same) and, sure enough, the meter is spec'd to tolerate either frequency on the input range, but also has an indication of which frequency is "preferred".

There is an modification in a crystal to change if you use 50hz instead of 60hz
