Racal Dana 5001... Calibration details?
« on: May 02, 2015, 01:36:08 pm »
Hi,
Can anyone pass along link to Racal Dana 5001 schematic/manual?
'Picked up a faulty Racal Dana 5001 four-wire multimeter yesterday for $5.
Searching EEVBLOG yielded one similar request from 2013 and no links the schematic information.
All help is appreciated.
Thanks.
  Louis

Good News Update:
As luck would have it, after finding and replacing a faulty LM339 it now works (slightly out of calibration).
Does anyone have calibration information they can pass along?
Thanks,
 Louis
P.S.   Could still use schematics for future reference.

artekmanuals.com has the download for $12.50.  Search the "other manuals" category on the page.

Thanks.
Ultimately purchasing the information may be the only way.
Hopefully someone will help with free download (to keep from paying 3 times the hardware cost for the schematic)  :)

As it turned out calibration discrepancies were a matter of giving it some time to warm up.  It seems to be working fine.

Still no documentation though.

For anyone interested, the method used to find the bad IC was to simply look for unusual levels.

About the third IC probed yielded some 2 volt outputs on a comparator.  Easy change since this is fully populated with sockets!

Sorry for digging up an ancient thread, but if someone is looking for the Service Manual for this meter, please visit KO4BB's excellent site at:

Oh, the "whys" of the datasheets... The information is there not to be an axiomatic truth, but instead each speck of data must be slowly inhaled while carefully performing a deep search inside oneself to find the true metaphysical sense...

I have one of these.  My experience is that it's a lot more drifty with temperature than something like a HP 3478A.  Probably because it's just a single-slope converter, if I recall correctly.

Still, it's decently accurate once warmed up and I love the easy to read display so it remains a favorite for me.

I have one of these as well... It certainly requires a good warm up before taking any serious measurements but it is a good meter. I like Red LED displays as well.
