OWON XDS3104E with VGA out does it help?
« on: May 17, 2019, 12:46:36 am »
Just wondering if anyone has used the VGA out option on the OWON XDS3104E oscilloscope?

I have a new Siglent SDS1104X but I just can't read the fine print on the screen. I thought maybe a unit with an exteral monitor might help.

Thanks for you thoughts.

Welcome to the forum.

Do you have a PC close by to where you use your SDS1104X-E ?
The webserver feature porting the display or full control onto a monitor might be useful for you.

Thank you so much. I read it could be controlled from a browser but I never followed up. This looks very nice. I'm going to give it a shot.

As an aside, I ordered my SDS1104X-E May 2 from Amazon.ca for CDN$ 615.46.
Today the price is CDN$ 737.88 + 35.39 shipping.

Happy to help.  :)
Ideally you'll want an extra LAN port for the X-E close to the PC and X-E so to retain your web connectivity for your PC and have your LAN DHCP available to assign a non-conflicting IP to the X-E, then just use that IP from the X-E in the browser window for instant connectivity.
It's all pretty easy.

Wow that's quite a price increase !  :o

Hey thanks again. With only a moderate amt of cursing I managed to get the scope hardwired to the laptop while holding on to wifi connectivity. And the laptop wired to a 30 inch tv with hdmi. This is pretty slick; I guess I'll keep the
Siglent. In spite of the squishy on top of mushy pastel buttons.

To answer my own question:
The VGA out works but you probably won't need it.  The regular display is huge enough that I can read all the numbers wihout going nose-to-glass, which is a good thing, what with it being a touch screen and all.
