I followed the advice to extend the frequency range of my E4436B in the
this thread.
First I extended the range of my E4436B to 4GHz and then changed the lower limit from 100kHz (ought to have been 250kHz right?) down to 50kHz. Lower than 50kHz as TheSteve says, it drops both in output power and harmonics are staring to show. At 50kHz they are 42dBc.
I also did some measurements on the output power above 3GHz and it could certainly use some adjustments. See attached spreadsheet for details.
The question is how?
So far I've understood that I need a Windows XP computer or VM, with a HP/Agilent GPIB adapter (USB if using VM). Will a NI PCI GPIB work if I do not use a VM?
If I get that going can I just do the "High-Power" part with my HP438A and get my EEPROM settings updated?
Or has anyone managed to do some more deciphering of the EEPROM data and thus found another way of adjusting the power level?
