Polar T-1200/T-1000 Component Testers
« on: September 20, 2013, 08:12:23 pm »
I stopped by a local biomedical used and rental equipment and noticed they had some Polar t-1000 units on the shelves with the diagnostic and theraputic equipment. He's got a price of $125 on them, but that's often negotiable. I can't find anything on the net about these except for a mention here for a near identical looking unit without a scope. These have outputs for using an external scope from what I see. What caught my eye was that they have two sockets for transistors and I've been looking for a good deal on a curve tracer. There doesn't seem to be any controls for a step generator and only two buttons that look like it's preset for current or voltage for transistors or FETs. Is this just a glorified octopus using a preset pulse generator or does it actually plot curves. I found the company on the net but they don"t seem to support or even mention anything about these so i figure they"re pretty old

what can these things do and what"s a good offer? can they actually plot a family or is it nothing but a signature curve?

A Polar T-1000 was on e-bay earlier this month with a minimum bid of $49.95 and went unsold. That may be of help in haggling over a price.

Both of you touched on the only two mentions that I could find on the net. The T-1000 on E-bay US and a t-1200 on ebay UK. Neither provided any information besides a photo to study and make some guesses. I already read the thread mentioning the t-1200, but none of these still gave me a clue what these things can do. Component signature tracer or can it actually also display a family of stepped curves? 120 hz AC or internally derived generator? The internal generator and a/b comparision by front panel switch is the most I can infer

I would send an email to the manufacturer asking for a datasheet of that product : polarcare@polarinstruments.com
it is a component signature tester, but I dont think it displays a set of transistor curves (but can display one curve)

r own the T-1200  :)

Its a great piece of kit and I have the manual and schematics  :)

In a nutshell the unit has the following functions:

1. Component tester similar to Huntron Tracker
2. Transistor tester with mounting fixture on front panel. Includes FET testing
3. Curve Tracer for transistors

Its a very goo unit but people often do not know what it is so do not bid, or bid low. I would pay $125 for one. The B&K branded version sold for US$495 last year !

Polar build very good equipment.

I will see how large the manual PDF is and upload if reasonable.

OK, the user manual is 3Mb and the service manual is 5.6Mb so I cannot upload them.

The T1200 was also sold as the B&K 540 Component tester

PM with email address and I will email the to you.

Hullo everyone: I have a Polar T1000 with no user manual and which I need to repair: do you still have the User and Service manual, Fraser? I'd be very grateful for copies: seems a shame not to get this old instrument working again. Thanks, Ralph.

Sorry that is a long time ago. I will look through my less than well organised file archives but no promises.

If Fraser can’t find it - you might try Polar. They have been very helpful in the past.
