OWON XDM2041 55,000 count bench DMM
« on: September 20, 2024, 11:51:23 pm »
Hi all,

I have a personal acquaintance that is asking about this meter.  It's currently available for ~$170 (USD) and he has little desire/ability spend more.  Foolish me, I said I can probably find out whether it is any good and give him a report back.  There is really nothing here I can find about it and there are few very skimpy video about it on YT that seem to have a positive outlook on it.  Looking at the specs and form factor it seems like a good choice for the price if it actually does what it says.

I don't mind other suggestions for similar items under $200, but I'm really looking for first hand experience on this DMM.

Can anyone help?

I picked up a rebadged Owon XDM2041 a few months ago during an Element 14 Clearance Sale for $175 AUD or around $120 US.   :-DMM

I haven't done much with it since but am certainly satisfied with its appearance as it definitely looks the part, looks count too you know.   8)

He already has a decent hobbyist handheld - a Kaiweets HT118E.  He got the idea for this from seeing my SDM3055.  He asked why I'd have a bench DMM and I told him, so now he wants a bench DMM too.  His needs are just a general hobbyist level.  He's not very experienced but wants to do more.

Those problems seem to be associated with aliasing against the 50Hz.  Not that it would disappear completely but it would be a bit less evident @ 60Hz.  Plus, I don't think he'll need to measure resistors exceeding 10MΩ very often.

Anway, there are things about it that are significantly different than the XDM1041 - form factor, front accessible 10A fuse, 4-wire resistance measurement, full auto-ranging.  For the additional $25, it seems to me to be worth it.  However, there are lots of videos about the XDM1041 on YT and it seems to be well liked.   :-//

Let us know what you think of it when you get a little time with it.
