old school Resistor Substitution box find + pictures
« on: November 22, 2013, 10:26:41 pm »
I bought these on ebay from someone who was selling a lot of "unknown untested sargent-welch equipment" for a deal. For some reason I thought I might be able to pull some precision resistors out of them. turns out the construction is more old school than I thought. Everything appears hand wound and soldered, no plastic other than the bakelite knobs, all fiberglass(maybe?) insulated wires. After a very liberal amount of deoxit/contactcleaner and a solder mend/wire replacement here and there they all work like a treat.  Each knob has 5 elements in a 2,2,2,2,1 configuration, the switch contacts are all in triplicate and make maybe a good cm^2 of contact. Should I send one to dave for his substitution box collection?

I like your Radio Shack analog meter. What model is it?
