I found this blog post whilst searching for failed backlights on this meter. It tackles noise spikes on the supply with more and better (lower ESR) capacitor.

I figured out the AN8008 cap mod in July 2017, so a few people later posted it in their blogs.

Adding 3VDC rail ceramic capacitors is a huge improvement in settling time and stability for readings.
Without them, the noisy 3V rail causes the averaging algorithm to take longer or simply never settle down so the last digit is always moving around.

I've had no hassles with the LED backlight.
