Vendors that accept Bitcoin (or other virtual currency)
« on: November 22, 2017, 09:15:53 pm »
Does anyone know of any US test equipment vendors that accept Bitcoin or other virtual currencies?  Preferably ones that are official brand resellers.

Bitcoin is up recently and it would be nice to blow it on toys!

  • I've found that TEquipment sells though NewEgg (who do accept BTC), but the NewEgg marketplace does not allow BTC.
  • Fasttech also accepts BTC, but is limited to a few very aliexpress-ish items.

Yeah, that's pretty easy these days, quite a few companies offer them. e.g.

Not US but in Finland. When requested, BTC is also possible.

BEV of course. Cars with smoke exhaust pipes - go to museum. In Finland quite all electric power is made using nuclear, wind, solar and water.

I'd think twice about paying a merchant in Bitcoin for a product or service in today's volatile market.  BTC rose 700% in trading value this year, meaning as the consumer you lost significant value in the transaction compared to purchasing that same article in a fiat currency.  Better to use BTC as a commodity investment while it is still growing at this rate IMO.

Do you remember what happen nearly exactly 4 years ago. I remember. I sold some things with BTC.  After very soon value start fast plunge down and it continue long time until after 1,5 year value was divided by 4 and at this time no one know what happen next, there was strong speculations that it may even drop more. Also today, no one know what is tomorrow. One is sure, future is not copy from yesterday.  So, risk is not only in buyer side. Risk situation is bipartite. Future is not copy from history. So, be extremely careful when accept BTC or other crypto for payment. Both parties need high level warning. ;)

It seems a number of various vendors have come up with a formula:

* Use bitpay (or other bank partner) as a processor, vendor gets paid in USD/fiat.
* Refunds only in store credit in fiat (to protect vendor from fraud).

As to who would use it?  Impossible to say without an experiment.  Perhaps bitpay would share some backend data on use with a potential partner.

Personally I often pay with bitcoin on Steam and with Newegg.

Edit:  Naturally there are likely to be some customer service headaches, and training for service people.  For instance when btc fee is set low; but bitpay does a good job of notifying the customer and explaining the delays.  Bitcoin in general is still a little rough around the edges.

From the way the OP asked, it sounds like he would. If he would, there are most likely others as well. With your company being technology related, your customers are probably more likely than say someone from a furniture store. Besides the time to implement and support, what else would prevent you guys from implementing it?
