A couple of years ago I dipped my toe-in-the-water with making and selling precision voltage references (under my eponymously named Fisher Instruments - units still available and supported!); we never sold enough to consider going full-time but now...

I've finally taken the plunge, burnt my bridges, no going back, no plan B, etc.. and fulfilling my life long ambition of being of full-time Test Equipment Manufacturer and Designer!!!

petemate: we are releasing the CPA100 power analyzer later this week, basic specs:

2 channel (16A rms, with a 100A peak current rating - 300Vrms with a 1000Vpk)
Vrms, Irms, Active power, Apparent power, Reactive power, Vpk, Ipk, Frequency, Power Factor, Harmonic Power, Fundamental Power
Voltage Crest Factor, Current Crest Factor, Whr, VAhr, VArhr, intergration time
Voltage and Current oscilloscope
0.25% basic accuracy

We are working on the logging functions (as well as screen capture and report generator) as well as more detailed harmonic analysis.  Our aim is to keep releasing functions and updates.

Hi tggzzz, yes - we are happy to calibrate units returned back to us (for the postage cost).  This procedure is internal - i'll add it to the website soon.

edit: I've been selling the 389-2 for a couple of years and the drift we've seen is below what we can reliably measure (10ppm) if the unit is powered up for short periods (not left on constantly) remember the temperature coefficient of the LT1021 is 2.5ppm/C. In production we seal the LT1021 in 4+ layers of silicone conformal coating after baking it for 24hrs.

Sounds like a massive amount of work for a person, though by the sound of "we" in the replies, you may have that covered.  Good luck, I'm sure it will be fraught with difficulty, but is still worth the effort.

I assume you already have plans in the works, but having those power plugs on the power analyzer be switched for regional variation would extend your potential consumerbase by quite a bit.

We are using IEC C19/C20 plugs/sockets on the CPA100 compact power analyser, these are commonly used on servers worldwide - basically they are bigger (higher current) versions of the common IEC (C15/C16).  We built the earlier prototypes with 4mm shrouded sockets.

For the majority of customer use cases we think they will be interfacing with standard AC mains (e.g. measuring power, power factor, peak current etc..) and providing quality 4mm shrouded cables, interface boxes and adaptors would easily cost more than the £249 for the analyser.

Each CPA100 is provided with mating C19/C20 Schurter connectors, and will also be selling suitable mains input cables on the site.

Well I've got my 10V reference and am very happy with it .  I'm even more happy that my meters agree with it (within their spec), I was worried the Owon XDM3041 was well out (still gotta check resistance with it).

Thanks.  We are just previewing V20.002 of EPIC (the emails are going out now).

The ASA100 now has PCB image & mark-up, a 'test tree', and shortly (probably V20.003 or V20.004) will have automatic signature recognition and automatic capture.  Some screen shots of V20.002.
