As to good practice, you would set voltage to some low value and set 20mA.
Connect DUT, enable output and slowly ramp up the voltage...

Good advice with any unknown DUT situation :-+

With known DUT and developmental work (what we mostly do/did) we almost always set the Overcurrent (CC) Limit to slightly above normal (expected) current draw and the Voltage (CV) to the desired operating voltage. We've been "saved" by this procedure more times than we care to admit :o

I should've word it better, what I meant is that direct into CC is not exactly commonly used feature. And the problem mentioned above is not "normally" appliable to the use case presented in the posted question.
Yes I agree that proper CV AND CC is expected (and should be guaranteed) mode of operation, but CV is by far the more common usage and is the one that applies to the posted question, and so far no decent PSU fails so bad that it violate CV setpoint.

To put it simply, the particular problem discussed here is not where you set your PSU at 3.3V and it somehow overshoot to 8.0V. It is where you set 10mA and it somehow go all the way to 160mA.

Actually the overvoltage can without much current at all. CMOS Gate Oxides fail due to voltage, they are so thin today, a few atoms thick, that it doesn't take much voltage (or current) to puncture the oxide and cause a failure, and in it takes very very little current for this puncture to happen :P

BTW BJTs are also susceptible, altho they tend to take more current as the usual failure mode is localized heating. A couple decades ago we were dealing with 400~500GHz SiGe BJTs in a BiCMOS process that had junction breakdowns below 2V, you could fry these by just looking at them it seemed....exteremely sensitive to any over voltage.

Of course as always YMMV!!

My SPD4323X has arrived. From playing with it for a few moments it seems to be a good product overall. The buttons and encoder don’t feel as high quality as my SDS800X-series scope, but they are definitely useable. I am keen to start using it!

My SPD4323X has arrived. From playing with it for a few moments it seems to be a good product overall. The buttons and encoder don’t feel as high quality as my SDS800X-series scope, but they are definitely useable. I am keen to start using it!

Enjoy it but move it on the bench; can't see it on the floor!  8)
Indeed I like the "clicky" encoder.

Modern CMOS gate oxide layers are ~1nm thick. One electron per microsecond is 150fA, or 0.15pA. Oxide breakdown occurs 1st with a soft nature, then hard breakdown occurs. Soft is when a localized gate oxide conductive path is formed (soft failure device degradation), hard is when this becomes permanent (hard failure device destruction). The effective current levels for these effects are very small!!

Anyway, we should start another topic on this and not disrupt this thread about the new SPD4000X.

I think this is good; it make more clear the switch from CV to CC ... if I got it correcltly.

2.In case of channel output, Press the aLL key to disable All ON/OFF output, and then press the All ON/OFF key to enable four output channels.

Not sure I like this ... currently I can power on a channel and in a second moment power on all the remaining 3.

I think it sounds safer that way. Less likely to damage stuff.

It will ONLY power on all channels at once if you intentionally push the ALL button... I don't see a problem.

What is written in the release notes corresponds to real facts ...
- CC mode is now in signaled in red font.
- "All On/Off" button behaviour while a channel (or more than one) is already On has changed.
   Pressing "All On/Off" button while a channel is already On, now power it Off. Counter intuitive IMHO.

It will ONLY power on all channels at once if you intentionally push the ALL button... I don't see a problem.

I agree to TheDefpom ... if Siglent want to insert a new layer of "security", please ask me if I really want to power on all channels (press the button twice).

Since the behavior only happens while a channel is already powered on, it sounds like somebody broke something and requested the feature.

If that was an option you could change in the settings somewhere, that would be cooler.

ALL ON/OFF behavior of SPD3303X/X-E has been criticized in that the ALL ON/OFF button would not turn any ON channel to OFF.

It seems this change of which I agree with is to provide 2 front panel methods of turning any active channel to OFF.

In this case it only adds additional functionality to the ALL ON/OFF button.

With one button only it is a binary situation; as I wrote IMHO a functionality was changed.
I flashed back firmware 4.1.2.8 and now I already miss the red font in CC mode :)

Regarding the "revise" history: it is written version 4.1.2.8 is the first release ... when the unit arrived on my bench it was running 4.1.2.6R2 (see photo below)

Can anyone who’s had both an SPD4000X and SPD3000X say if fan noise is improved/worse/similar?

I know that’s a very use-dependant situation… So just any rough comparison & opinion is all I’m looking for!

I am seeing this on HW rev 0 SPD4323X, and wonder if this really is an issue (I am afraid of zapping a work in progress breadboard circuit or device I may be diagnosing with “unexpected power”), and whether it could be a firmware fix?

That shouldn't happen with any power supply, regardless of pedigree or cost, even a DIY version  :(

Our SPD3303Xs and GPP4323 don't behave this way, if they did we wouldn't have or use them. As you mentioned too much chance for sensitive circuit damage :--

Hopefully this misbehavior is only with your individual PS, and not typical behavior for these new SPD4000X models.

What firmware version are you running? The firmware version 4.1.2.6R2 that was running when my unit arrived is NOT available on the web site while 4.1.2.8 and 4.1.2.8R1 are available
