Topward digital function generator 8112
« on: May 30, 2014, 09:46:26 pm »
I bought this function generator but I'm not sure if it's working right. There is a ramp/pulse knob that if you turn effectively alters the duty so for example a triangle wave becomes a sawtooth wave. but it also seems to mean that the frequency goes down to about 10% of what it was, surely the wave frequency should stay the same.

Not necessarily, the ramp function often alters a charge or discharge current source, and this alters frequency as well. Common flaw in many function generators that use the same basic chipset or a clone thereof.

ok just making sure it works as I got it second hand off ebay. It does the same for sine and square wave. At the top of the range the square is really rounded to the point it looks like a charge/discharge curve on a capacitor and is not really going to be usable without being squared up properly by another output stage like a comparator or logic gate but then I'd loose any offset voltage.
