SDG2042X 40MHz Waveform Generator
« on: September 27, 2016, 08:20:58 pm »
I 'm planing to buy this baby.

Apparently is the best one on this price range, any competitor with 1.2Gs  or more on the same price range?

Member Ampere was considering the same a day or two ago, there are other lower priced Siglent options, the newer SDG1000X series.

Well

150 MSa/s sampling rate, 14-bit vertical
x

1.2 GSa/s (4X Interpolation), Vertical resolution   16 bit

I would prefer pay a little more to have 16 bit and 1.2 GSa/s

Yep, quite different specs.  ;)
Just wanted to make sure you knew of the new 1kX models.  :)

When I looked around, I didn't see a much better option.  Down to .075% THD in the audio band (vs. .1% or more on most competitors) and a pretty decent internal timebase.  The DAC resolution and sampling rate seems largely unmatched, but I'm not sure how much of a performance difference it actually makes.  The frequency counter is somewhat slow to update but offers something like 9 digits of accuracy.  Built in waveforms on the current firmware have a lot more options than dave's review.  I ended up picking up the 80MHz variant from someone on the forum, I'm happy with it.

I have one, and love it. I don't do anything very complex with it - just DC, square and sin waves into circuits I prototype. Like others, I found the two output, sample generation rate and DAC resolution impossible to ignore.

The 40 MHz model can be easily upgraded to 120 MHz model.

You probably paid more second hand for the 80 MHz version, than brand new for the 40 MHz version.

Lucky forum seller! Why did he sell his unit in the first place one can question? :)

Not sure, but I paid $400 for the 80MHz version, so given the $500 pricetag of the 40Mhz version and the basically new condition, I certainly don't feel like I got a bad deal.

Haven't heard anything about modding to higher frequencies, but it doesn't seem like the hardware or other specs are any different and I don't have any need for it anyways.

And unless you've been following the SDG2024X thread you will have missed this:
