a) those scopes do not capture outside the screen in run mode
b) even if they did capture outside the screen, that would be compromising the waveform rate

are the 2000x and 3000x series doing something different from the 1000x series?

The 1000X uses the exact same Megazoom IV ASIC.
If it is the exact same chip, then they’re doing something very different with it, since the 1000x and 2000x don’t have anywhere near the waveform update rate of the 3000x and 4000x. (200,000/s for the first two, 1 million/s for the second two.)

AFAIK the 3000/4000 series have two MZ4 chips, the 1000/2000 only one.

My HD3 has arrived at Keysight Australia, should have it in a few days I suspect...

Softsare locked, just like the 2000X is.

I'm really curious for your impressions and test. Love the equipment videos. I know these videos make a lot of work, but please take your time for testing =)

It's being picked up today, so I'll probably have it on Thursday, basically the date of release, so I won't have time to have any videos ready for the release.

Me too, but only out of curiosity.
If the Scope has nothing else to offer for the expected price apart from the 14 bits, I'm not particularly impressed.

I do believe it's on the truck for delivery today.
Obviously I don't have time to do a full detailed hour long review before or on the day of release, but please list the stuff you want to specifically see.
Should I do a teardown as soon as I get it, or you you prefer I just test some basic stuff and give a first impressions?

It's only hours (if that) before the wraps come off officially, but FWIW, the datasheet finally showed up on Google: https://www.4test.no/cosmoshop/default/artikelpdf/HD304MSO_en.pdf

Edit: Straight from Keysight (newer revision than the one above): https://www.keysight.com/us/en/assets/3124-1567/data-sheets/InfiniiVision-HD3-Series-Oscilloscopes.pdf

I'd enjoy seeing a first impressions video as quickly as you can get one out, followed by teardown and/or full-review video(s) in whichever order you prefer.

Well an unedited unboxing video would come for free, might as well do that first.
Or I could edit it into a more usable first impressions video, like 2nd channel worthy content maybe.

Hello,

an unedited unboxing video and
please can you measure the noise with 50 Ohm and 1 MOhm and 1 mV/div and 1 V/div and 1 ms/div.
Please use a 50 Ohm termination at the input so that there is no interference from outside.
It would be great if you could make the corresponding waveforms available for download. For the download, 1 Mpts would probably suffice.

Best regards

The datasheet has noise figures for 50ohm and 1M for many verticals, but I will verify and share data. My standard process is 1ms/div and 1M points anyway.

Hello,

thanks, the data sheet doesn't say how they measured it. What is different compared to other devices, however, is that they do not average the values (MXO4 uses HD mode active for bandwidth ≤ 500 MHz).

The datasheet suggests there is no roll or XY mode. Really?

I personally haven't had a use for XY mode, but roll is very handy and something I use regularly. The lack of this would be a serious limitation (at least for me).

Edit: Coming soon.

I'm also comparing and contrasting the HD3 datasheet with that of my current 3000 X-Series. It's interesting that there are a few specs where the 3000 X actually outperforms the HD3. Existence of roll and XY is one. Another is the maximum sample rate. The 3000 X can do up to 4 GSa/s (5 GSa/s for the 1 GHz model), while the HD3 maxes out at 3.2 GSa/s. But that comes with an asterisk, because the HD3 can do its full rate regardless of how many channels are active, while the 3000 X drops to half of its maximum value if more than 2 channels are active.

Hello,

perhaps you can also measure Vpp during the noise measurement. that would also be very interesting.

Hello,

can you call the HD3 a gray mouse, or would that be an insult?

Here is a new video about HD3:

When I discovered this video, I was the third viewer.

and the intensity grading, at 16 intensity levels, is worse than in the 3000x series which states 64 levels!
