Impressive, nice viewing angle, but a little gimmicky with the covers. Not much use if the leads are already in there....

Not much use if the leads are already in there....My early 90s-vintage HP 974A uses a pretty much identical scheme to protect you from trying to measure voltage with the probe in the current jack. When I first got it I thought it was pretty clever, and it's the only meter I've seen it on (until now). I think I prefer the modern solution of bleating at you, as my brain seems incapable of remembering whether you have to turn the dial first or move the jacks first. It does a good job at what it's meant for though - no blown fuses yet!
