Siglent SSA3021X Plus questions
« on: October 25, 2024, 06:28:35 pm »
So recently I was looking for a used VNA. I decided against buying a used one due to age of the items vs component life.

I ended up getting a Libre VNA just because it was a more affordable option vs features etc.

I also have a TinySA Ultra.

But the noise floor on those is still around 100db.

I'm thinking of planning ahead for a next purchase & was looking at the Siglent SSA3021X Plus model spectrum analyzer. Looks like it's noise floor is around 161dbm. Or did I read that wrong? They have a tracking generator built in too. So that was appealing.

I thought i had read there's a modification you can do to also enable a vna feature as well. Is that still possible on newer units? I know the vna feature is limited. I was just curious what all mods are working for those units to help make a decision on one. Keeping it under the 2k budget.

Also curious about the discount code....

101 pages of multiple post of what starts out as speculations on page 1.

Search within the page of measuring a duplexer 120db down..no results..

I think I'll just call the company later today & try to get direct answers rather than stain my eyes reading all that. :palm:

101 pages of multiple post

Indeed... There should be a max limit so that people wouldn't have to stain their eyes so much...

I have some time till they open to call. So I decided to breeze through starting from the last page then read back.

I figured this way..maybe I'll find some insight by end users vs pre speculation that starts out on page 1.

I appreciate the form & usefulness. I also get why people say read & search. That's where a forums resource of information can become handy. But often there becomes so much information & opinions of multiple post. It becomes a bit of a needle in a hay stack search for some key information.

I think you need to read the datasheet to get the information you need. You can find it here: https://www.siglenteu.com/spectrum-analyzers/sva1000x-spectrum-vector-analyzer/ (button "spec sheet" on the bottom right).
I have pointed directly to the SVA1032X page, because it is what the SSA3021X+ becomes after some simple magic tricks.

Spec shit I mean sheet.. I already know the vna dynamic range around 90db for the VNA. I'm asking if the spectrum-analyzers portion of the units will read lower using SA & TG to set reject notches down around 120db. To basically pick up where the vna portion leaves off.

I called siglent today. They said they "should"..I thought it was odd it wasn't a definite yes answer.

So that's why i have been asking here for help about that. Looking for users to chime in with will or won't.

I've had one other ham on YT give me a fairly direct answer. That it will eventually, but it woukd take time trying to get it dialed down & 120db might be a stretch.

So I like to ask questions & get feedback from live users on what they know about their machines. Often that feedback is more real than what specs & marketing tactics try to tell you.

Rather than use the tracking generator, I think you get more reliable results (at -120dBc) if you used an external sig gen with the Siglent analyser. This should deliver much lower uncertainty down at -120dBc.

Obviously, try and use a good brand of sig gen with good screening.
