DOA New Bryman BM235 Multimeter - Ghost screen??

I just took delivery of Bryman 235 and got that sunken feeling when I noticed this ghosting of some LCD segments on the screen.

I fitted the batteries, checked 1.61volts but no life at all.

The screen had changed and prior to fitting battery's I managed to get a photo but with reflections it was difficult to capture.

I removed battery's after a while and checked fuse. OK, so I emailed the supplier welectron.com.

Later in the day I fitted batteries again and it switched on with no trace of this fault.

As it appears to be working the supplier informs me that a return is accepted but I have to pay the shipping cost.

Clearly there appears to be an intermittent fault that has vanished but only to perhaps reappear again probably as Murphys Law the following day after the return acceptance date expires.

I wonder what it might be and has anyone had similar issues?
