Hi,

There is an article on the HP6012A in the HP Journal. This is a similar product to the 6010A.

http://www.hpl.hp.com/hpjournal/pdfs/IssuePDFs/1981-08.pdf

I have repaired these units with IRF450 TO-3 MOSFETs.

I have a HP6030A 200V 17A 1000W. The HP 6030A is a later version of the HP 6010A.

These supplies are flyback supplies. The flyback topology enables the constant power curve.

There should be a safety cover over the line connections. May be a job for a 3-D printer?

WOW what a monster!
That piggy back board on the back was kludged on and pretty nasty looking!  Also exposes the line input.. not too good.
Looks like some of the mods were half as#ed too!
Thanks for all the detailed pics and explanation! and the manual!

@Jay_Diddy_B: Thanks for the link to the HP journal. I received my HP6012A today (dunno if it works; it needs a thourough cleaning first) and I have two HP6024A PSUs.
There are small lies, big lies and then there is what is on the screen of your oscilloscope.

Thanks for the journal link, interesting reading.

pomonabill221: Normally the board is not exposed, but my unit was missing this part. This is the unit in its normal form:

Still, I don't like it.
