Multimeter fuse
« on: July 13, 2019, 03:06:21 pm »
Can anyone tell me the difference between this:
https://ie.farnell.com/eaton-bussmann-series/dmm-b-44-100/fuse-0-44a-fast-acting-10x35mm/dp/1241957?st=dmm-b
(DMM-B-44/100 -  Fuse, Industrial / Power, DMM-B Series, 440 mA, 1 kV, 1 kV, 10mm x 35mm, 13/32" x 1-3/8" )

and this:
https://ie.farnell.com/fluke/943121/fuse-cartridge-440ma-fst-act/dp/546719
(943121 -  Fuse, Cartridge, Fast Acting, 440 mA, 1 kV, 10mm x 35mm, 13/32" x 1-3/8", FLUKE DMM Series )

They both seem to have similar ratings, but 3-fold price difference!

I think its a pricing error and if you can get the Fluke branded fuse at that price it might be worth while getting a few because if you go the UK site for Farnell the Bussman fuse is priced at £11.97 and the Fluke is £12.52 which is around the last price I paid as well. So its a pricing error, in my view.  :-+

I'm recycling this thread rather than creating a new one to clutter the forum with.

I'm looking for a replacement Fluke / Bussmann 10x35 440mA (or 400mA) fuse for my newly acquired Fluke 1587, it feels like replacing the fuse is going to spoil my bargain. (Why the F### do these things cost so much?)

The best I've found online so far is here:

https://www.distrame.fr/fr/catalog/Fusible-de-rechange-10-x-35-mm-440-mA-1-000-V-IR10kA,171397.html?catalogParam%5BshopId%5D=12695
But that's without VAT and I haven't got as far as creating an account to know the cost of postage or whether they will sell to Mr Everybody.

Would anyone point me to a cheapish but reliable source four these fuses or similar ones that will fit the safety requirements, preferably in France, will consider Europe.

5 euros seems about as low as you're going to find those.

The Farnell link seems current, and they definitely will sell to private individuals, though you'll have to make an account (just a case of registering your email etc).

The cost is partly because they do have quite high manufacturing standards in order to meet their specifications, and partly because you've little choice...

Maybe, consider Dave's fuse pack:

Not much use for meters using a 10x35mm fuse, now is it?

While waiting to place an order at Farnell or wherever it will be and considering the meter isn't going to be poking an industrial environment any time soon, I've followed the path of repair / forgery.
Do you think this would sell on the usual fake component marketplaces?
