Got a Tek TDS3012B for $150:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/231949792436?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Repaired it and already sold it for $550:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tektronix-TDS3012B-100-MHz-1-25GS-s-2-Channel-DSO-options-TDS3TRG-and-TDS3FFT-/322123867531?hash=item4b0014258b%3Ag%3AF9wAAOSwQaJXSCk6&nma=true&si=xVbbMMFGZW6PtKBSp%252B31hCJs2yo%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

That will keep me in beer $ for a month or so.   >:D

Jay

Awesome! I think of buying/fixing/reselling as ebay sponsoring my lab bench.

At this point, I think of it as my income. I was just laid-off a few weeks ago along with 9 other people after 31 years with the same company due to out-sourcing (after the bean counters took over...)
Screw 'em!  >:( I hope they sink.  >:D

Jay

Been there myself - twice!

As you're in the US you could make a pretty decent living just buying, fixing, reselling on ebay, craigslist, forums etc.

It's been said that in the tech industries, there are only two kinds of employees, those who have been laid off and those who will be. I've been on both sides of that table, once at effectively the same time. Not fun.

Jay, it looks like you're off to a great start with the flipping.

Thanks. Been doing it for awhile in my free time, but there will be much more time to get a bit more aggressive now!

1.5 LeCroy AP015 current probes for around 400eur
One complete, one missing case and transformer, sold as untested.
I did hope that at least the connector works on at least one, as the probe itself is identical with my Fluke i50s (which in turn is made by LEM) and could be transplanted to it, as to finally have a nice solution that doesnt need external power and gets the scaling right.

Now, all that stuff was seriuosly dirty, full of iron oxide. Stil, the complete probe worked, after cleaning the transformer and trimming the gain a little, it seems to be perfectly in spec!
The other one actually works too after installing a transformer from the working one, but would need to be calibrated. So i took the whole probe from my i50s and transplanted it onto the AP015 plug, which was successful and also works in-spec.

So, 2 working AP015 for 400+300 (that i50s)Eur. Not too bad a price...

Tektronics AWG420 for $360. After shipping and tax about 500 Euro.
In very good condition. Only had to replace the fuse to 230V line power spec.

Bought a DSOX3014A from the Keysight ebay store. It came with no probes which was fine with me. I picked up four 500 MHz 1161A miniature probes like new in the padded zipper cases with all accessories for $40.00 each. Looking at the 1160A series of probes they just ooze quality compared to the newer current model probes.
Also came across a proper DSOX3000 series N6450-60001 Logic Analyzer cable for $90.00.

ebay always delivers...

What a great deal you got on those 1161A probes.
Did you test them on your DSOX3014A?
Are they correctly recognized?

Yes, I am using them with my DSOX3014A. 10:1 is correctly selected and the 50 termination option menu is removed. The probe compensation was also no problem, 2 of the 4 required no adjustment at all. I wasn't sure they would work but thought it was a worth a shot at the buy it now pricing. I can't believe all the accessories that are included with these probes - even spare probe tips. The padded/zippered case is even made in the US and would probably cost more to have made today then to make the current probes Keysight sells.

a Tek 453 for $80 USD, "as is" had a trace across the screen on sale but after a bit of a rough ride , arrived with no "X" axis action happening at all!
Did the usual check the mains circuits, check the PSU rails, checked the HV  - all ok.
Looked at the horizontal amp , the leads to the final transistors where no longer "clipped" into the PCB, pushed them in and Voila!
Whoah! Watch where that landed we might need it later.

Hi Pat, funny thing I was settling in for a long hard hunt with hard to get parts etc, when I saw those leads sticking up in the air.
I was just about to kiss it when I reminded myself of the 25kV or so nearby.HiHI
The calibrator circuit is dodgy so I will have a bit of fun yet.
Regards Rob

I hope I scored something nice from Ebay today after some haggling: an Anritsu MS4630B 10Hz to 300MHz network analyzer.

There is one problem with the one I got though: it doesn't power up but the seller (and equipment dealer) claims it stopped working recently. I just hope I didn't waste a couple of hundred dollars. Anyway, needing to repair it is a good reason for a teardown so expect that soon! I have never used a network analyzer before but I think it will be handy for an upcoming project and because it can also calculate the equivalent circuit so it can serve as a (not so precise) LCR meter over a wide frequency range.
There are small lies, big lies and then there is what is on the screen of your oscilloscope.

It's a long and storied tale of wild west internet shenanigans! Keysight Technologies made an amazing decision to give this one away! Many members of this blog made it go my way!
