Oh well...some adaptors - and proper ones, so some crappy ones can be shed or relegated to the reserves.
And some splitter/combiners, with a frequency doubler coming as 'bycatch'. Only MiniCircuits, so no reason to be envious. ;)

More HP junk.....

Won an auction on a 4145A Semiconductor Parameter Analyzer with a 7475A pen plotter for 3700yen. (Photo is from the auction).

Both should provide hours of entertainment to restore.  :-BROKE  :-/O I'll have to figure out a measurement jig for the analyzer, or buy the official one from somewhere.

Wow, that's quite a score. Less than US$35. :o

A month or so ago, I saw that you can still get pens for these plotters. I haven't tried any, yet.

Funny that someone substituted a black Teac floppy drive in the analyzer.

Yeah, should be fun to play with.
NOS pens are still available at good prices on ebay, so I'll probably pick up a set of colours soon.
Also, I plan to replace the disk drive with an SD Card emulator. I also saw a colour LCD display replacement, but at $400 a pop, they are a little too pricey....

I also have a Tek 577-177 curve tracer, to restore, so I'll have to decide on which to keep... The minister of finance is eyeing off the resale value of them. :D

We have a Sony-Tektronix 371 curve tracer. Absolute beast, and impossible to kill.

Dead mechanical switches? No worries, just replace with a new one.

Dead front panel? No problems, GPIB+LabView solves it.

Dead fixtures? Not a thing. We made our own Kelvin fixtures.

I'm building a higher voltage one to replace it, but before that, it remains to be its own legend.

I see those pop up on Yahoo Japan every now and then, one sold just the other week. They still sell for around $2k though..
Being able to get the data out via the disk drive is a handy feature though.

TIB a boxful of random bits from an auction. £50.
I bid on it because there was a national instruments gpib-usb-hs adapter, so that was a win to start with.
But I also discovered :
  • An Axis PTZ dome camera
  • 3 raspberry pis (3B), two of them with the 'official' 7" LCD touchscreen and power supplies
  • A TP-link router
  • 2 POE taps
  • a thermocouple temperature display
  • random connectors and components

And the catch of the day is this Swiss-made E12 resistor sustitution box (not a 'decade' in the proper sense, but going to be useful anyway.) Especially as they claim it to be 2W and 0.5%.
Sadly, I missed out on a Tektronix differential preamp.
This box just came in. Unbelievable how flat that thing is - the box is just 20mm high! The large and comfortable knob adds about the same. The switch positions are crisp and totally aligned with the panel marks. I like it already.

Just bought a Philips PM5518-TX colour TV pattern generator today for just under 3000yen.
I've already got one of these but it is missing the RGB-output option, which this new one has.
The new one is in a little more worn condition, so I'll make one good one with all the features from the two, and the other will be sold in working condition.

That's quite a score. You're on a roll!

So, in the age of digital TV, what will you be using this for? I've been wondering for a while and now can ask someone who owns one (well, two).

Useful for people who like to restore old TVs.

Couple of guys I sub to on youtube who I've seen using analog TV signal/pattern generators:

I guess I should share my latest "scores" here as well.

1) Lucent RFTG frequency references, both OCXO (left) and rubidium (right). It's designed to fail over to the rubidium standard if GPS lock is lost for any reason. I need to find a suitable power supply for it as well as perform the relatively simple mod to get 10 MHz ref out directly on the front panel (old telecom stuff like AMPS, which is one place this might have been used, uses 15 MHz apparently).

2) HP 8405A Vector Voltmeter. Absolutely pristine condition. Came with a nearly complete and hard to find probe accessory kit. Probes are not burned up. Paper manual and schematics too! This is a direct predecessor to the first network analyzers HP made, and can be used for a lot of similar tasks up to 1 GHz.

3) HP 8640B sig gen. Also in amazing condition, fully functional front panel. Has Opt 002 (512-1024 MHz output with reduced RF power). Also came with manuals.

Yeah, I like to collect old CRT's (small ones, like from portable TV's, camcorder viewfinders, etc) so I use this sig gen to test and align them.

I want the RGB output option so I can find and test direct RGB input into the colour CRT's I have, then my plan is to use one of those ebay HDMI or VGA to RGB converter boxes to convert old mini colour CRTs to HDMI/VGA/etc.
Will make for nice raspi screens for retropi or custom retro monitors for vintage PC's.

In some parts of the US, there are actually still low power analog TV stations hanging on (definitely not mainstream networks though). Other than that, gotta have one of those converter boxes handy if you want to actually use the damn thing.  :-DD

Makes sense. Thanks, guys. I only have two CRT TV's left. When they need alignment, I'll know what to get.

1. New pair of LeCroy PP008 500MHz probes: £70
2. Stuart CB302 Hotplate/Stirrer: £36

The probes are for my new, unlocked SDS1104X-E.
I know the hotplate isn't really test gear, but it'll make a great preheat/reflow hotplate. Max temperature is 450 C. It was cheap because the stirrer doesn't work. It soon will though  8)

Agilent 34410A, GW Instek 8251A, Thurlby 1905A, Siglent DS1104X-E(unlocked), SDG1032X(unlocked), Micsig DP10013 MX, LeCroy PP008 500MHz Probes, Fluke 179

Power Designs 5020 for $107.50, though shipping was a bear. The thing outputs 7mV high across the range - what a disappointment ;D.

HP 8502A R/T test set for my 8754a VNA for the cost of shipping.  That was extremely lucky.

Now if only I could find an 8748A S parameter set that was less than your first born.  Why are those things so expensive?  This is a manual VNA that's been obsolete for decades.  Grease pencils anyone?

What a nice collection you got this time.

Any reasonable price for the tektronix current probe with amplifier?

Talking of the current probe amplifier, if you have need to open one up then some high res pics of the internal PCBAs would be very much appreciated...
(no service manual or high-res photos are available for the more modern amplifiers, and I am toying with the idea of making a DIY amplifier for my older generation probes given I have 4 probes and just 1 AM503 amplifier)

Edit: also congrats on the haul, that bottom power supply (and the collection of probes) looks especially tasty!

Forum ate my post

Anyways, already sold one pair on eBay for 1250€. That included:

- 10% eBay charges
- 3,5% Paypal charges
- 21% Belgian VAT. If you have a valid VAT registration number I don't have to charge it. Otherwise: no escaping death and taxes.

Discounts beyond that are possible but come directly out of my pocket so I'll need at least a good sob story and a declaration of eternal love.

TCP312, by the way.

Talking of the current probe amplifier, if you have need to open one up then some high res pics of the internal PCBAs would be very much appreciated...

Maybe HighVoltage can make some pictures after he buys it .

Seriously, though. No cal stickers, just an odd screw in the way. I have about enough work to fill the next two weeks 5 times over but there's a Postit on the wall with your name on it.

Thanks, and that sounds like a reasonable price too based on what I've seen them go for in the past.

I'll also prod the boss at work about getting a probe/amp set from you if there are any left (we desperately need a good current probe); unfortunately there is a lot of bureaucracy involved but if I get any interest I'll send a PM. Probably a long shot though, they'll likely insist on buying new for 5x the price then the bean counters will say no because of the cost  |O

Edit: the "new for 5x the price" number was pulled out of the air, but I've checked and it's almost exactly right based on a TCPA300 and TCP312 from the usual rip-off merchants (RS/Farnell).
