This arrived today. LG FG-7002C function gen. Between that and the TTi unit below it I can most of what I want, up to the low MHz range, anyway. Definitely need a scope with better FFT, or better yet a signal analyzer. I'd better stop buying and start saving if either of those are going to happen.  :-\

Hello to everyone,
I have a Xcelite TCMB150MT tool kit and I need some advice from you, does anyone know what I can clean the handles of the pliers with foam green-blue grips, a method or some clean substances ?
Thank you very much.

Like any cleaning, I'd start with something gentle - try soap and water, perhaps dish detergent and see if that helps.  From there, if needed, I'd escalate to window cleaner, and beyond that a citrus based cleaner.  If those don't do anything, then on to isopropyl or denatured alcohol, though test those in a small area first to be sure they don't attack the handle material.

Good luck, Xcelite makes good tools.

If it jams, force it.  If it breaks, you needed a new one anyway...

Try an old tooth-brush and some tooth-paste. This is my first try when I have to clean something sensitive and had good experience with it.

Latest test equipment score, a ESI Impedance Bridge 250DE sold "For Parts / Not Working Missing Meter Movement".
Overall in excellent condition, just need a new meter and a new 4 D-cell battery holder.

But don't put too much effort in it - those handles are unduly sensitive to contamination.
To say it bluntly, they will attract any dirt in view.
I have a very fine needle nose pliers from this series in my main toolkit - it got it's smudge on first use many years (over 3 decades) ago - beside that, it's perfect.

Brought my first Fluke anything in a 'cheap' 895A differential voltmeter.

However Freight cost on this dinghy anchor was nearly 3 times the cost of the unit  :palm:

eta 10-14 days from Albuquerque then hopefully turning right via a side trip to Erlanger and evilbays Slow GSP  :horse:

Nice - Do these have the photochopper or the updated solid state version?

Not sure but the 1981 manual I downloaded still shows the photo chopper and an 11V heated ref. I am buying it as a plaything more than serious use (like most toys  >:D ).

Had a look at your video last night too  :-+

Double score of my life but have to rewind 6 yrs.  A coworker says he needs to clean out two storage units with old office equipment and the like.  He says there are two network analyzer boxes that have to go.  Not really interested in what I thought was a traffic analyzer system but it was a nice lunch break to visit the trailer.

Once inside, he pointed to the area and there sat two 8753C VNAs, each with an 85046A !.  Almost wet my pants.  A VNA was so far up on my dream list I never thought of owning not only one, but two.  I wanted to be sure they were cleared with management so took that route.  While the units were indeed free to be dumped, and no one knew what they were for to begin with (they came from a small RF company acquisition), I sensed uncertainty and had to sweeten the pot.  My proposition was to fully clean and test one unit and keep the other.  Smith charts had finally come to life !

Fast forward and I now have a PNA with the 8753C (now with 85047A) going on ebay soon.  I'll never forget the feeling of staring these two units straight in the eye(s)  :scared: :scared: :scared:

The back side of the LRC knob is also very interesting, along with the Function/Range switch.

My best deal to date was yesterday. Scored an immaculate Simpson 260 7M and case for $20 from a Craigslist ad. It was hard to find using the usual search terms, so I just tripped over it. It had been listed for 18 days and I thought sure it would have been gone. I had to drive 90 miles each way to get it, but I wanted an analog multimeter and this was a beaut for dirt cheap.

You did really well on this one IMHO. :)

Price wise, it's worth a YOU SUCK award  :o  ;), though this will be tempered a bit due to the 180mi. round trip to fetch it. But assuming your vehicle isn't a total gas hog (i.e. ~$20 - $25 round trip), I'd assume you got it for ~$50 door-to-door tops.  :-+

You are right, of course :)  I have been watching 260's of all vintages on ebay for a while, so I know the going rate. But, It was out there for three weeks before I saw it, so it is not like I stole it from his widow. I stole it from him :) a retired electrician several years younger than me, and I am still doing 40+ hours a week :)  I slept just fine that night :)
After I paid him, and had a firm grip on it, I told him how far I had come to pick it up. His jaw dropped a bit, but it was a Sunday afternoon and my wife rode with me so we had some good time together, though she thought I was nuts. BTW, he also has an very nice 87V with the protective sheet still on the window. Asking $250 but offered to move a bit. I just don't need a DMM that expensive.

Could have waited for another additional discount to be made available but just could not resist  :palm:
Picked this differential probe up for 140 us$ shipping included which is not a bad deal at all.
