i worked as crew at the 2016 hammeeting and the 2017 hammeeting, sellers often travel there with a huge load of random old junk and either sell it or throw it away. currently i have gotten: A telequipment d61a oscilloscope (with a brand new 10:1 probe), and old norwegian made ohm meter and a cheapy chinesium multimeter.

My Fluke 8845A arrived today. After some cleanup (also bought the rubber bumpers separately), it's currently warming up for a check.

Been a while since I scored anything, but just picked up a HP 34401a. The seller practically swore that it would not turn on and then set his price at 25. He handed out to me and said,  "I think you have the magic fingers." Sure as shiznickelson, it turned on and no errors. Also picked up a HP 8568 that needs something for an awesome price.

as I've found out from 34401a repair, selftest with no errors doesn't really mean much.  :-\

I've got to get some sleep, but will check it out later.

Sure thing, xwarp. For $25, even if it's majorly flawed, it was worth it for the parts.

I've not had a chance to play with it too much today, other than run the power on "confidence" test which passed, but will try to test it more thoroughly out tomorrow with some "standards" that I have. It does appear that the display is on the dim side, but I've got an extra Fluke 8840 VFD that is very bright that I could use to fund the cost of a replacement for the HP.

There are replacement VFD from China that show up on eBay. I don't know how new or old they are. I recall a post on the forum where someone said the one they got was a bit dimmer than one would expect of a new display.

I hate that, seems like the Ford Ranger pickup I had when I was a teenager was that way. I'm fine with imperial, I'm fine with metric, but come on, don't mix them in one device!

Sound familiar, it's the same on my '73 MGB GT. British build but, at least traceable since early 80's, driven on mainland Europe.

I've picked up a Tektronix P6042 oscilloscope current probe.
It's old, but it seems to be up to spec and no work inside appears to have been done. Only the 230v plug has been changed to one without the earth leg.

For about 140 USD I think I got a great deal.

Picked up the same unit today, 5 euro's. But mine is a parts unit. The cabinet is in very bad shape and the probe is missing. I have use for the feet  :)
It is really beyond repair. Your one looks really nice. But if it is not complete, now is the time to ask...

selftest doesn't test rs232, gpib, or calibration. your 34401a can be completely off in wonderland with regards to measurement, it can have completely blown I/O ports, but it will pass selftest.

as pointed out, do the performance verification tests. and check rs232 and gpib.

Posted this in the General Chat thread, so I figured I should probably post it here as well.  Soon, it will be in Metrology.

Thanks for the option guido  :) But the unit is complete and working appart from the missing 50 ohm terminator. I got one from ebay since I dont work at very high frequencies and thought it was adequate. But I dont trust it completely.

Maby you have a better one?

I've had one for a number of years.  Great units.  A bit more drift that the new ones, but for the money you can't beat them.

I agree. It looks good!  I love the probe holding slot on those units.

Yep it drifts a bit when you first start it up, but after about 10 minutes it's very stable.

I've got a BG7TBL GPSDO heading towards me. I'm involved in a project with some serious time nuttery going on so it seemed like a good addition to my lab.

Another item I just ordered is a Tektronix TLA7BB4. This is a 136 channel logic analyser acquisition module with 64Mbits of memory per channel. The real kicker is that it offers a high speed buffer with 128kbit sampled at 50GHz (no, this is not a typo). Unfortunately it is in an as-is condition so I have to hope (pray) it works. To be continued...

There are small lies, big lies and then there is what is on the screen of your oscilloscope.

Serious stuff. Can you use the same probes as for TLA7AA4 (P6810/P6860/P6890) or do you have to move to P69XX D-Max ones? I was looking at TLA7BB4 and D-Max probes but the price increase compared to 7AA4 series is huge and not so popular on eBay.  I guess TLA7AA4 in Half/Quad channel mode wasn't enough for your needs.
