Got an Array 3710A Electronic load for 80€ (Love it) from a place I worked at.
Weller WSD81 For free from a friends workplace.
Found a two small 300VA variac for free the day after I finally bought my 3KVA variac.  :palm: Now the big one only gets used for the big projects
Telewave 44A Wattmeter for free from another friends workplace.
A very nice stereo microscope with 12cm of workspace for 5€ from a closing optometrist.

Provably a couple more things I cant remember right now. :-+

Not test equipment, but I'm pretty stoked with this. Yesterday I went to Flemington Markets and MSY in Auburn, for assorted small things. Near the markets I found a street-tossed office machine - a really big one on a pedestal.  It's a Canon imageRUNNER 2220i
Brochure: http://csscanon.com/uploads/IR2220series.pdf

Fortunately I had my son with me, since it took two of us to lift it into the car. Ha, the manual insists it's a 4-person lift. Weigh:   214lb. (97.4kg)
I'd thought it would just be something fun to tear down. It had no damage but appeared to have been left in a warehouse exposed to diesel truck exhaust for some time - lots of black grime. So presumably not working.

But no! After a quick clean it powered up, with a self-diagnostic fatal error code. Which, on downloading the service manual, turned out to be 'toner waste container full'. Emptied that (not accessible to users) and it boots up (from internal hard disk) and works. Operation logs in memory say it was last used in 2013.

So now I have a high volume A3-sheet laser network printer, scanner and photocopier. The user interface is a relatively large color touch screen. Nice.  Also the pedestal cupboard contained a never-used CD of the related graphics utilities.

This goes nicely with the perfectly working 'enterprise quality' A4 color laser printer I also found as a street toss recently. http://everist.org/NobLog/20151112_planning_vacuum.htm#printer
That one got me out of a high-cost parking fine soon after, since the judge was so relieved to see a nicely printed 'why it wasn't my fault' presentation after all the shitty hand written notes he'd been reading for hours, he dropped the fine.
I wonder what this printer will be useful for?

Very nice 'find'!  Congrats!  Good thing you had help to lift it.

Nice freebie that photocopier. I wouldn't be surprised if it was thrown out due to that toner waste full error code.

Ha ha, no. I should post this in the 'products you hate' thread, but thermal toner books of any kind, I loathe them. Because the toner becomes softened and tacky with any diffusion through the paper of the plasticiser volatiles from PVC. Such as ring binder covers.
Result: With almost all photocopied manuals, after a while the first few pages at both ends start sticking to each other, and transferring the toner. Horrible.

Real ink on acid-free paper, it's the only way to mass produce long lasting documents cheaply.

+1

I've had many such copies ruined either inside binders or having unfortunately been placed against the outside of them.

Joy of these office photocopy thingies. At my former workplace I had few outdated units gathering dust for years in strange places - at least three e-waste companies said they were "very busy" after hearing over the phone what do we want them to pick up. Also, fact that only two male workers were me and 6x years old electrician certainly didn't help with getting rid of them. I'm sure these copiers still silently wait for their demise at yet another unused corridor till this day:)

Tek 7612D digitizer with two 7A16Ps for free.

Playing with GPIB at the moment, the 1979 implementation is quite allergic to a modern prologix adapater. An old win 98 PC with NI adapter and software is able to talk to it. Strange thing with EZGPIB, it only works after using the NI "talk to instrument" feature first.

I also found old software online that is supposed to be able to take measurements. It's running on HP BASIC, so now i'm looking for a way to run this on Windows/dos.

Another challenge is to read the MCM6832 ROMs in the 7A16P's. My acient programmers are not old enough to handle them. The 7612D uses 2716, i did those (copied to KO4BB).

The mainframe seems ok. No errors when querying ERR? on GPIB. I'm also missing a real XYZ monitor

The best steel I have ever got and will ever get.
Two fluke 87 (original) just dusted them and working perfectly
One BK precision 60v/3A power supply
A few cheap clamp meters
Two voltage testers (I think good quality)
Two pipe bender things(He gave them to me I didn't need them)
All of this for $100.

Hands down I think I got the jackpot

This was unexpected. I think it's the first time I've ever found any professional high-end test gear as a street toss.
Recently I've been driving around more than usual due to visiting my mum in hospital frequently. This thing was sitting on a kerb on my usual route there yesterday, with some other assorted junk.

It's a Tektronix TG700 TV Signal Generator Platform.
Info: http://www.tek.com/datasheet/sync-pulse-generator/tg700
Loaded modules:
AG7   6x50 BNC   Digital Audio gen
DVG7  2x75 BNC   Digital video generator
BG7   4x75 BNC   Analog black gen (opt CB for color bars - does not have, dammit.)
  AGL7  6x75 BNC   Analog genlock

All my exposure to professional video was in the '80s, so analog video only. This thing is mostly digital video, so quite interesting. It seems to be completely working (its self-check claims) though as yet I don't have any other digital video gear.
When I first started playing with it (before I had the manuals and list of module functions) I thought one module was broken since the menu said it was generating color bars, but all my bench scope could see was HF white noise. Ha ha, it's a digital video stream.
It was dirty and stickered, but cleaned up nicely. Even had the protective film still on the display.
Oh, and miraculous wonder: the rack slide rails are complete. How often does *that* ever happen?

Last 2 pics: At the other far end of the tech-spectrum, in the same pile was a tub of tools that had been left in the rain. Cleaning these up is kind of an obligation to the fight against entropy. Just light surface rust.

I spoke with the people at the house; they are 'clearing out the house for a friend'. Huge piles of stuff already moved out in the yard. Arranged to go back and meet again tonight, to see if there's anything more like the Tek.
