Banana plugs to fit 34401A
« on: January 23, 2019, 01:14:21 pm »
I just discovered that these are "special" :(

As it happens my favorite test leads with the *really* sharp tips fit properly, so I never noticed the issue.  But all others either don't fully seat or leave exposed metal.

So what fits?  I spent a long afternoon searching without success.  Either they did not fit or the drawings didn't give the critical dimension.  The insulator at the end of the plug needs to be under 0.330".  The ones I have that fit are 0.321" at the plug end and then taper to 0.400" at the wire end.  I'm looking for tin plated 4 or 8 spring phosphor,  bronze or beryllium copper in solder style.

We're using a cheap set of leads from Marlin P Jones and they work fine on our 34401A.

I have a set of original Agilent probes which seem to fit fine. The leads are a little thick, but very usable. The instructions say the following "This Test Lead Set is designed for use with the Agilent 34xxxA Multimeters, and also the U2741A, U3401A, and U3402A Multimeters."

I have a pair of cheap , *very* nice probes.  But I want to be able to use the instruments in custom applications, for which banana plugs which fit properly are essential.
