Fluke 561 IR thermometer query
« on: July 30, 2016, 09:25:03 am »
Hi,
I have just acquired a Fluke 561 IR thermometer. It appears to work correctly but I notice in the user manual that it suggests 'cleaning the lens with a soft cloth...'  It appears that my unit does not have a 'lens' in the outer end of the 20mm hole although there is possibly a witness mark suggesting that something may once have been there. I cannot find a picture of the business end. There is a thin aluminium ring at this point.
Does anyone have a Fluke 561 to hand, and can they confirm whether there is a 'lens' present. Also, is it a convex type lens or just a plain window to stop dirt and fingers going down the hole to the sensor.
I have not had chance to determine if the 'spot size at distance' that the thermometer looks at (as detailed on the top of the unit) is correct, and haven't thought of a method to do this test.
Regards,  BT

I used to own a 561 and in those days it had a metal ring but no outside lens.

I assume the manyal meant the lens inside the hole (using a swab). But I never cleaned mine...

OK, thanks for that... unless your lens had fallen out too !
I haven't used it in anger yet but will see how I go with it.

Not really. It came in a blister pack so the lens couldn't have fallen out.
