Siglent SDS1104X-E vs Teledyne LeCroy T3DSO1104
« on: May 25, 2019, 01:07:27 am »
What is the difference between the  Siglent SDS1104X-E and Teledyne LeCroy T3DSO1104 beside the price being almost double?

Thanks
Mike

None, apart from the fact that you'll get the service from Teledyne LeCroy. As they are a big enterprise, they have a lot more human resources (service guys, application engineers) for this, which would be a benefit for professional users.

Cool, I didn't know Teledyne LeCroy rebadged the SDS1104X-E.

Some other differences:

T3DSO1104 claims to have higher bandwidth probes - 300 MHz
SDS1104X-E comes with 100 MHz probes.

Teledyne LeCroy sticker on the top front corner - can I get ones of these for my Siglent :)

Marketing screenshots for T3DSO1104 show no logo on the display (where Siglent would have a Siglent logo).

Not 100% sure, but Teledyne LeCroy does not seem to have easy access to download firmware for the T3DSO1104. Siglent has anonymous download of firmware from their website.
For example new firmware just came out for the SDS1104X-E and I don't see where to get new firmware for the T3DSO1104 from the teledynelecroy.com website. I might be looking in the wrong place? Perhaps you need to contact their support for it. But I don't see announcements for new firmware either so how are you supposed to find out about them - unless you follow Siglent updates as well?

Probably different locations for distributors/repairers - in case you need support.

EDIT 20200318:
Someone pointed out to me that since my post above, Teledyne LeCroy now has the current firmware available for anonymous download from their website.

Rest assured that the Siglent PP510 probes are good up to at least 300MHz as well and they are a perfect match for the SDS1104X-E (even if hacked). If Teledyne actually supplies different probes, then their mechanical qualities would be most likely better though.

Not 100% definite, but a picture from here seems to indicate that the T3DSO1104 comes with PP510 probes, same as the SDS1104X-E. So perhaps the datasheet/marketing for T3DSO1104 is wrong.

Btw, you can have a look at reply #56 in my review thread - it clearly shows that the PP510 performs very well on the 200MHz (actually more like 240MHz) SDS1202X-E. 254MHz bandwidth, close to 2ns rise time. What else can we ask for?

https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/siglent-sds1104x-e-in-depth-review/msg1434665/#msg1434665

If I get some spare time, I might check the performance on a 1GHz SDS5104X and add the results to the thread mentioned above.

EDIT: Screw that. I've tried the PP510 on both the SDS2304X and SDS5104X - on neither of them is the performance acceptable, i.e. the fixed internal HF compensation of the PP510 does not match these scopes. Rise time is either slow (2.5ns on the SDS5104X) or pulse response ugly with lots of ringing (SDS2304X).
