Help with oscilloscope ?
« on: October 15, 2020, 10:38:59 am »
Hi everyone.
I came a cross this old thing on my local site...

https://www.njuskalo.hr/mjerni-instrumenti/osciloskop-hm-312-hameg-oglas-32437522

Anyways i am looking for a cheap oscilloscope just to get me started mostly for repairing vintage TV s, amps and analog organs. Is this thing worth it it is only one channel but i really can't find anything better for these sort of prices here in Croatia (it is pretty hard to get test gear here for cheap...)
What are your opinions on that thing ?
Also i am a complete newbie with oscilloscopes and can someone point me in the right direction for learning to use this thing.
Thanks in advance.

You can do useful work with fairly basic Oscilloscopes, & the Hameg is a cut above "basic", even just having one channel.

A cheap old scope is better than nothing, provided it is working correctly.

You do not want an oscilloscope that is faulty.

That scope may or may not work. You need to see a sweep across the whole screen, it displaying a signal, and it triggering on the signal.
There are lies, damned lies, statistics - and ADC/DAC specs.
Glider pilot's aphorism: "there is no substitute for span". Retort: "There is a substitute: skill+imagination. But you can buy span".

Also on this one guy says that price is not fixed so i can probably lower it...
I am not in a rush I am just looking for now.

That looks good.  My last two or three scopes I got free so the price shouldn't be too much.

I do not know these hamegs but I would suggest to look for tek 22xx series, they're a very bullet proof and easy to repair.
Since you're in europe, look for philips or even, telequipment
