HP 8640B swap range gear assemblies?

My 8640B needs new gears and at 82 I didn't like the challenge of the task of changing gears so I delayed and just bought a range gear assembly off eBay and consider the swap an acceptable task.  It's been over 20 years since I've been inside one and would appreciate any tips on doing the swap safely and with the least effort.  Thanks
