Am I stuck with Orphan Oscilloscopes?
« on: May 04, 2017, 09:20:33 pm »
Hello to All,

I have these three Atten oscilloscopes:

ADS1102C Firmware: 2.07.02.10R10 Hardware: 5.0.1.27

ADS1102CA Firmware: 3.01.01.31 Hardware: 6-41-2.1

ADS1102CAL Firmware: 5.01.02.13 Hardware: 11-62-3.3

I wanted to see if there were any firmware updates for them, and I could not find any info. No firmware repositories, manuals to download, FAQs , etc.
So, it looks like I have zero support for these units, plus on the forums there is little discussion about this brand compared to some of the other brands.
I do have two Rigol oscilloscopes, and have been able to find much discussion about them on the web, plus I was able to update the 'scopes to the latest version with easily-found firmware.
So, what to do? Should I dump these things? They work fine, but in principle, Atten has left me in the dust, so perhaps I should return the favor.

AFAIK they all have Siglent internals, the C has 5" display and least memory. CA should have more, maybe 2Mpts.
CAL is 7" display and 2Mpts IIRC.

Siglent firmware is compatible with some of these models AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Extreme care and considerable research must be done to ensure you have the correct version OR YOU WILL BRICK YOUR SCOPES.
There are mentions of this on the forum so take some time to hunt them out.

AFAIK there are NO firmware versions currently available online for the 5" C and CA models.
You might find something in a posting somewhere with a good hunt.
Be very careful.

Further
Clues to which FW versions will work are in the first # of the FW version: 2, 3 or 5.

Suggest to reset/initialise and cal everything, shut down and reboot, BEFORE considering yes/no firmware gambling.

Running the guinea pig scope from a UPS won't hurt either, in case of a power hiccup or black out, with possible scope RIP consequences    :horse:

I recently updated the firmware on a Siglent SDS1000CFL 4 Channel series > Firmware Version: 5.01.02.38 | Released 2015-03-10
Software Version on updated unit: 5.03.02.38  Hardware Version: 15-f0-0.11

Result: the 'Siglent' brand blah boot time splash screen is now gone, replaced with a blank white screen, but it fires up quick and some issues I was concerned about are all gone and the scope appears to work as it should.

The firmware was direct from Siglent btw, and one must be VERY cautious to select the correct file on their support pages   :-//

The firmware instructions don't tell you that much, the final step 'Part 2 Update Cfg' made no real sense to me nor responded, or is not relevant to my scope model.

TBH: I tried this last released update hoping to resolve issues,
knowing I could fall back on the warranty if the update failed or scored a dud scope to begin with.

UPDATE: Siglent came to the party on this issue with a fixit CFG file, and matter resolved  :-+

EDIT May 10th 2020: a member PM request for the last/final software and hardware version displayed on the unit as mentioned above, still same as of 10th May 2020

Details in the picture/photo below, note the last 8 numbers in the Serial Number blocked out for security reasons

Hello to All,

I have these three Atten oscilloscopes:

Have you got problems with them that makes it necessary to update them?

If not, why are you bothered?

@CJay
Do you think they'll still be waiting. :)  Mind you I've been waiting longer for Slignet FW. ::)
.  That took much longer than I thought it would.
