Marconi/Aeroflex 2030,2031,2032

Hello,
has someone the binaries for the system EPROMs (2) and the display EPROM Version 6.xxx, 7.xxx or 8,xxx for me to help me with my generator. I think the problems I have are caused by a mix of the revisions (i.e. 7.001 system and 7.003 display). Aeroflex could not give me the binaries, but they would like to sell the complete set of 3 EPROMS for about 700€ ! In this case it would be easier to buy another generator used.

Buying another one might be a reasonable plan - you can mak a copy of the eproms and then re-sell it. Otherwise maybe there is a dealer who has some of the signal generators in stock and would copy the roms for a small fee. You bought the generator so it's not like you would be a terrible firmware pirate. If you were in the UK I would suggest asking Stewart of Reading if they could help you out in exchange for a small fee.

Before doing this you should definitely join the Yahoo group for Marconi Instruments test equipment, and search their forums and also ask the question there. If any hobbyist has the files, that is where you would find them.

thanks for your answer. I have joined the Marconi group at yahoo two weeks ago, but I have
no answer to my problem. So there are only three ways, to get a firmware:

- look for a (faulty) generator to buy ...
- buy the EPROM at Aeroflex
- ask a dealer (they don´t like these questions)

or 4th option as Chris says: buy a used one (working unit). Copy eeprom and resell it (Ebay etc.).
I did this several times - also when repairing a faulty unit. It is much easier to track a Problem down if you have the same unit in working condition available (measurements, replacing boards etc.)

you may be right. But there is an other problem with buying :

The generator must have the same hardware revision (and I don´t know wich changes are made over the lifetime of this generators). I have asked some sellers on *bay for the firmware revision, but none of the generators has a 7.xxx firmware.

So maybe it will not work to buy a generator with an other firmware; there may be changes in the hardware!

Hi,
It looks like this discussion is few months old now but in case someone is looking for firmware mentioned here I attach issue 7.001 of front panel eeprom for Marconi 2031. This comes from unit which suffers error 26 (real time clock problem) but it does not affect posted firmware. BTW, does enyone know what can cause this problem...?

The: MARCONI INSTRUMENTS 10KHz - 1.35GHz signal generator 2030 (The Serial Number is 119329/044 Made in Engalnd) has on the display controller board and on the controller board the eproms:

IC 12 - 44533-366D  ISS  2.005;

IC 202- 44533-368   ISS    001;
IC 109- 44533-366A  ISS  2.005;
IC 111- 44533-366B  ISS  2.005.

What is your version of equipment? What is your display?

Hi All,

I'm looking for informations about one Display for the equipment:

 MARCONI INSTRUMENTS 10KHz - 1.35GHz signal generator 2030 (The Serial Number is 119329/044 Made in Engalnd).

The Display is:

 EPSON ECM-A0310

 (9006C0U)

Assuming it is a discontinued part:

Where can I find the data sheet?

Has anyone found a direct replacement?

Has anyone adapted a diferent display to this design?

Has anyone added new hardware to adapt a new display for this generator?


Running the test procedure it shows up the message:

**Can Not Setup Link Between Processors**

and the display shows some corrupted irregular half columns and lines as well.

I have checked all connections from the processor board to the display controller board and it matches as supposed.

 The controller board has the controller IC SED1330FBA
