hp 16522a not recognized by logic analyzer main frame
« on: August 05, 2024, 07:50:27 pm »
I've got a 160500B logic analyzer and bought a 16522a pattern generator module. Some googling shows they should be compatible but when I put it in the frame it says unrecognized board. It's supposedly tested good by an ebay seller which some longevity and good reviews so my first thought isn't a bad board. Any ideas what might be going on?

Is the 16522 driver in the system directory of the 16500 boot disc ?
I know it needs to be there but I'm not sure of the results when not present. However, I think it will be unrecognised.
Do you have any other, working, boards present?
I bought a 16500C with 3 16552 cards so I'm pretty sure it's supported.

I have a working capture card and the documentation definitely says it's supported. I hadn't thought of a driver, didn't know it was required. What's the filename for the driver? If it's not there I'll have to find a way to transfer it over...guess I'm digging out old hardware with a floppy drive.

I don't have mine to hand, but I think it will be SYS_025.

The page https://www.alexandrugroza.ro/microelectronics/essays-research/hp-16500c/index.html indicates that PV_025 would be the performance verification for the 16522 and SYS_025 would be the matching runtime software.

You can find it in https://www.keysight.com/gb/en/lib/software-detail/instrument-firmware-software/16500c-operating-system-version-109-sw509.html

It's only necessary to have the system and drivers for the cards you have, and on the floppy-based 16500A you would build a floppy with the necessary parts. On a B or C you have a hard disc and there's no reason not to load everything, but that may not have been done on yours. Or perhaps it has older system software, set up for the earlier 16521 pattern generator.

I think there's a way to list the cards by their ID code (eg _025) - possibly running the test system.

The missing driver was the problem. Finally had time to find my USB floppy drive and some floppies and transferred all the system disks. Everything is working great now.
