At first I thought “Not another spectrum analyser repair!” Then I saw it was optical. Nice! Very interesting.

What’s wrong with spectrum analyzer repairs? I thought people liked those.

Nothing is wrong with them. I do like them. However there has been a lot and variation is the spice of life!

To answer the question about the increased noise with the output attenuator turned on (if this is normal), mine (a MS9710C) does it also. However, my unit was pretty beaten up when I bought it, so it could just be a common fault from a weak part...

What type of optical connector is that?..the one on the front panels of most of your optical instruments.
Don't mess with an Electronics Engineer, it Megahertz!

What type of optical connector is that?..the one on the front panels of most of your optical instruments.

That would be the FC/PC-connector (non angled version). Sometimes it is also the FC/APC (angled version). The angled one are typically green (but not always).
