Agilent 82357B, installing the minimun software needed
« on: December 07, 2015, 08:32:44 am »
Hi there,

I have one of those GPIB USB adapters and I have just fresh install Windows 7.
Is there a way of installing the minimum required software for it to work?
The full Agilent suite loads the system with many services and, I think, unnecesary.
Ideas to minimize?

I think NI provides a driver that makes the Agilent 82357B work with LabView.

These days I always have the Keysight I/O library installed and on a good Win 7 System it runs very stable.
But then, I have a dedicated PC just for the Agilent / Keysight measurements.

There are 3 kinds of people in this world, those who can count and those who can not.

You may just install the visa shared component from here:

http://www.keysight.com/main/software.jspx?ckey=2504667&lc=eng&cc=US&nid=-11143.0.00&id=2504667

just 1.4M and you should be able to use your 82357B

Do that include the 82357B driver?

My guess is yes, but I'm not sure.

On IVI foundation website here, explains the VISA share component function as following shows:
http://www.ivifoundation.org/shared_components/Default.aspx

VISA and VISA.NET Shared Components

VISA and VISA.NET Shared Components install common components needed to provided consistency across VISA implementations from multiple vendors. These installers are not available on this download page because they are distributed as part of a vendor's installer for its VISA implementation. Please contact a vendor directly if you wish to use these installers separately.

So since we downloaded from Keysight website, I think it should include everything needed for VISA communication.
I'm sorry I do not have a clean PC for a try. Correct me if you have a chance to try it
