Help identifying a vintage meter (SEC CT-330??)
« on: December 29, 2019, 08:34:08 am »
Hi all, and warm season greetings!!

I acquired an old vintage meter from the flea market. I looked online for info, but I was not able to find anything about the model or the company.
I am attaching some pics for reference.

I suppose the manufacturer is "SEC" and the model is the CT-330.
it has a bakelite case, and it says "JAPAN" at the back.

Any help on this?
Also as I have never used such a meter, I would love to get some guidance from here related to the use of analog meters. I have seen some sporadic videos on YT, but any focused advice will be much appreciated!

Thank you very much in advance!!
Wishing a happy new year to all!
Michalis

The front panel is very very similar to my circa ~1980 Japanese Kaise SK-160.

I got it as a gift from a family friend for my 21st.
The rotary dial markings are almost an exact match however the case in mine has 4mm banana jacks exclusively.
Mine also uses 2 batteries for the R ranges, a 1.5V cell and a 15V cell for which you can easily stack five 3V lithium cells and a couple of spacers all covered in heat shrink as a substitute as the 15V cells are getting hard to find these days for a reasonable price.

Other features of mine, DC current to 12A (dedicated jack), AC current 0-12A (one range), Capacitance (AC source required), Decibels, DC to just 3KV, 30uA and 0.3V ranges (dedicated jack).

Good meter, look after it.
PS, these are NOT fused and don't have the modern safety devices, GDT's, MOV's etc so wise to restrict use to low energy circuits.

Thanks!
Great tip on the 15V battery hack, as I was wondering what I should do about it.  ;D
I am aware of the lack of safety features, and I do not plan to use it on high current/ voltage measurements. I am a beginner anyways! ::)

Now had some time to take a pic and scan the manual of my Kaise SK-160.

@ michalism, I'd be very surprised if your SEC CT-330 isn't just a rebrand of a different model Kaise.

Normally I'd compress this pic but for this instance the additional detail is warranted.

Kaise SK-160

SEC CT-330 (from the OP)

Scans of the SK-160 manual attached in 300dpi which is the best I have.
