Anyone have experience with the Fluke 324 sold through Lowes?
« on: December 04, 2020, 02:57:01 am »
Looking for an AC and DC clamp meter and saw Lowe's has a 324 Plus. Adds DC current to 324, still fewer features than a 325 but about a hundred dollars less. I have a 323 I like but it doesn't do DC.

Want basic clamp meter for around the house, in the garage, and automotive troubleshooting. I do want True RMS, DC capability, prefer CAT IV 300V/CAT III 600 V but CAT III 300V is ok, want an Inrush or Min/Max button and hold button. Amprobe AMP-25, Fieldpiece, Uni T, and other have options too.

I'm in the U.S. 120/240 VAC 60H or 12 VDC auto.
Fluke 117, 323, T+ Pro, Amprobe AMP-320

The Amprobe AMP-330 might check enough boxes for you.  Two weak points I've noticed are that it only can go down to tenths of a volt and delta/zero is lost when entering crest mode (works fine in min/max/avg).  Otherwise it's been solid.  $200 (Approximate US street price)

You should also snag a Uni-T UT210D or E.  It's almost wrong to not have one regardless, considering the bang for the buck.  $50

I do carry an AMP-25 along with an AM-47 in my tool bag.  The AMP-25 is a bit weak on features and has some annoyances, but DCA accuracy has been excellent.  Good compact combo. $120 + $35

I also have the UEi DL489, which has mV AC resolution and a dedicated mV DC range (down to 0.1mV).  But honestly it's awkward to use so I can't quite recommend it.  $165

Side note, the first UT210D and DL489 units I got were faulty.  No issues with the replacements.

Another setup to consider is a current clamp that connects to your DMM (or scope).  The PDI CA-60 for example, or something better if your budget allows.  $100
