Here's my DHO800 pretending to be an HP15C calculator:

(It's the only APK file I had lying around...  :)  )

Yes, it works perfectly.   8)

Yes, it works perfectly.

So we could add this to the pro/cons list:
Can simulate a scientific calculator.
If that's not a reason to buy, then I don't know what is. ;)

Wait 'til I get electrodroid working... killer app!  :-BROKE

The web browser screen recorder still works when you're using other apps!  :)

Try this app, works very well in landscape mode! Its very similar to Electrodroid.
But it also have same color scheme as Rigol UI  ;)

Electrodroid lets you download the apk directly.

Are you sure? Since your link leads to the site with stolen apps. Be careful with APKs from those third party sites.
Trojans or crypto miners on the scopes are the things that now may suddenly happens  ;D

Here is the official site https://electrodoc.it/electrodoc/ which has only links to various markets and there is nothing about direct download for their apps.

That's supposedly a safe site and I ran the apk through online scanners but I've removed the link just in case.

The google Play store doesn't seem to work directly on the 'scope. I guess it's missing some components.

Installing apps is a bit useless anyway, I haven't find a way to launch them except via ADB. None of the scope buttons takes you to the Android home screen (unless somebody at Rigol put in a secret combination). You need an external keyboard to do anything.

Did you try to remap one of the scope buttons for a home screen launch?
Another possibility is to remap one of the scope buttons for a custom launcher with a list of installed apps.

The easiest way is to try to install Button Mapper since it supports custom keycodes if I remember correctly.
This video is just for demoing its main concept.

Is this possible with the standard firmware or do you need the firmware version 1.02?

ps: great to see another HP calc. lover ;-)

Any firmware will do.

The updates don't change the android system, only the contents of the /rigol folder.

And the voltage accuracy is great also.

5mV/div is interesting..
Here is 5mV.

I found some keyboard shortcuts that work on the DHO. Plug in a keyboard and try these:

Win+ENTER - go to Android home screen (there's nothing there, just a big Rigol logo as wallpaper).

Win+B - open the web browser (lightning).

Alt-TAB - open the task switcher (open the web browser first so you have something to switch  :) ).

Finally...

Win+N - open the Android notifications. Here you can increase your screen brightness(!) and if you touch the gear at the top you can go into system settings and set up your WiFi. No Ethernet cable or ADB needed :-)

Also this:

All we need now is a launcher to put app icons on the home screen and we have a full Android device. Anybody know a good one?

can we get back on how to hack DHO800 to DHO924S (full LA with AWG capability) while keeping serial number and use latest FW? i have enough android apps to play with..

I've used my Micsig to show PDFs while I was assembling something. The screen is bigger than my phone.

I agree, perhaps it would be worth starting a dedicated thread with the list of possibly useful apps on the scopes with Android, including a custom launcher, etc.  ;)

Let's get back to the actual hacking.
We were able to get the 804 up to 100Mhz and 50Mpts of memory relatively easily.
And the actual bandwidth is even twice as high, 200Mhz.
What is still missing...
E.g. the 2ns/div. and the CAN and LIN decoder function.
We assume that the 800 and 900 platforms are identical, except for the LA part.
But something must be different, because 924 scopes have 250Mhz bandwidth, measured a little more.
Let's think about this again.

Yep.

E.g. the 2ns/div. and the CAN and LIN decoder function.

On the 800?

That's all inside a huge ".so" file. At first I thought those functions would be in Java but they're not. Almost all the 'scope functions are written in C++ and are in a binary ".so" file. It's going to be difficult to modify that.

If you need those functions then just push a DHO924 vendor.bin and ignore the few pixels of offset on calibration. It's annoying but it won't really affect much. Most people only seem to have offset on a single channel.

(I'm still not sure why calibration is different between them ... my gut feeling is that it ought to be solvable but I've stopped caring about the extra bandwidth given the sample rate)

We assume that the 800 and 900 platforms are identical, except for the LA part.

Yep.

But something must be different, because 924 scopes have 250Mhz bandwidth, measured a little more.

It's all software: Something inside that ".so" file is looking at the model name in vendor.bin and doing things differently on the DHO900.

PS: I'd love to know what measured bandwidth is with a DHO914 vendor.bin.

Also: Does a 914 vendor.bin calibrate OK?
