Either a mechanic or somebody working on heavy factory equipment, field service is brutal on tools.

That doesnt look like fire to me, more like heavy oils, e.g. hydraulic fluid, dissolving into the plastic,

Yeah that looks like the work of greasy dirty hands. Tools look similar after doing field work at the steel mills too.
