I picked it up.  I was only interested because it was 4-channel, but I'm glad it did.

Amazing condition.  If a shop sold it to me as new old stock I wouldn't doubt them for a second.  No scratches, no grime on any of the knobs etc.  I pulled the cover off to get the handle off it (so I could stack it with stuff), and it's amazingly pristine.  It's got fan cooling and even the fan and air inlets don't have any dust on them.  My conclusion is it's practically never been used.  It's got US gov stickers on the back, so I'm guessing it just sat around in storage for most of its life.

Came with 5 tek probes to, but unfortunately 4 of them are 1x, which significantly reduces their usefulness.

Harvs, Congrats!

It really does look very new - nice find/purchase!

I have a brother model (2247A) - it is among the most enjoyable to use products.  The people at Tektronix really knew what they were doing.  It's a little off topic here, but I think there must a a HUGE amount of know-how still residing in Tektronix.  I would think their next generation of scopes could be something that would get the same oo's and ah's around here that currently seem to be mostly reserved for Rigol and Agilent products.

(PS, looks like you got a manual with it but you might consider purchasing a searchable pdf version of it - maybe on eBay; there are so many features buried in this generation of scope that you might find a searchable manual a good addition to your investment.)  Let us know how you like using it - I'm betting you will have a ton of enjoyment with it.)

Don't know what eBay is like in your region but in the U.S. you can find almost any 22XX or 24XX vintage scope any day, and if you are patient you can have your pick for decent prices.  There is always some risk, but if you study the ads carefully and pick a seller with a very high rating (100%) over fairly large #s of transactions (100 or more), especially if they have previously sold other similar products (as opposed to sellers that just buy and sell anything and everything) you stand a decent chance of getting what you were expecting.  I don't want to start a big eBay debate here - this is just my experience.

There are 5 listed at $300 or less and over 10 listed at $400 or less currently:

Again, YMMV - but it's worth a look-see.

yeah, thanks I know regularly trawl through ebay and here http://www.govliquidation.com/auction/search?cmd=results&words=oscilloscope but freight is a bit problematic. Some sellers insist on UPS which is fine domestically in the US but for a 6kg package it's up around $170 or more.
My experience for small items is US postal service is at most a day slower internationally and 15% of UPS prices. The extra freight really takes the shine off a $300 scope, but It can be done we seems to rarely get hit with Customs fees here unlike other countries so not all bad.
I'm happy a fellow EEV scored for the moment.

Yeah I know the feeling.  It's really fairly rare that stuff comes up in Oz, but it's actually far more rare that it comes up in WA.  I picked up quite a few bits and pieces while living in Brissy, seems like quite a bit of ex-gov auctions have gone on there in the past so there's a bit of 90's stuff that comes up occasionally. Where as this is the first time I've bought any TE in WA secondhand, it's typically either 70's stuff (single channels scopes or 20MHz) and it's generally way over priced.  So this was a very nice find, thanks!
