This could be a problem in the internal circuitry of the oscilloscope and not the display because it seems to occur in the signal trace overlay area. I'd try a different LCD first!

Well then it certainly is an odd failure! Perhaps one of the traces on the glass itself got interrupted. I have seen localised defects in LCD screen though.
Where did you get the replacement LCD, from Tek?
