Free book on Tektronix oscilloscopes
« on: October 15, 2022, 12:35:57 pm »

I wrote this book about Tektronix oscilloscopes. It has 268 pages and covers the 7000-Series and the 465.
It is a non-commercial initiative, the book is completely free (no registration, no tricks... :D), I wrote it just for my amusement.
You can download it from here: http://www.k100.biz/parade.htm

I will be grate for suggestions or even corrections.

Thank you - wonderful photographs and descriptions
Disclaimer: I have worked for Pico Technology for over 30 years and designed some of their early oscilloscopes.

We are always recruiting talented hardware and software engineers! Happy to answer Pico related questions when time permits but here as electronics is a hobby

Wow this is quite the book!

Are you going to print them? I think it would sell well around the Holiday season. ( I think it may be $$$ to print due to the graphics)

What about the HP variant?

Thanks for your efforts on this!

Your best bet would be China, where most of the books are now printed.

Let me talk with my wife, she is a technical support employee of Heidelberg China - https://www.heidelberg.com/global/en/index.jsp

For sure a customer of her owns a printing company who works with books and magazines.

Outstanding!  What a beautiful creation, made all the more so by setting it free.  If you do sort out a printer, I'd love to have a dead tree version of this!

OK I will sent you a PM later today because there are some stuff I need to know before hand, as number of units, special features as hard cover, folding pages etc.

Basically the most important is quality of printing.

There are 4 standards:

- Newspapers/Panflets/Business cards, etc;
- Magazines;
- School/education/technical/illustrations books;
- Photo Books.

Yours from what I got goes into the latter, so the ones where quality is the most critical and also the more expensive of them all. Of course number of prints also change the price - a price of 1 book in a 100 print is different in a 1000.

But not to enter in Off-Topic I will sent you the PM later.

Amazing book! The photography is great. I really want a hard copy.

It reminds me of the recently published Open Circuits book https://nostarch.com/open-circuits

If you don't want to commit to a full publishing run you should look into on demand printing service. It's more expensive than normal publishing but easily allows you to scale volume with minimal upfront cost.

If you don't want to deal with shipping and sales yourself I think some of the on demand printing services may also manage that. Otherwise I would recommend reaching out with Crowd Supply, they are crowd funding for hardware / engineering stuff and they would be interested. They handle fulfillment and some of the marketing and only take a ~15% cut for the initial crowd funded order. I worked with them to sell a current probe last year and it was a good experience. https://www.crowdsupply.com/apply

I think you ever so slightly, mistyped the link.  By accidentally adding a '.' to it.  Here is the apparently working, corrected version:

I get the same "not secure" message when using Edge, but it still downloads the file. It's a very slow download. Takes approx. 2 - 4 minutes.

Same with Chrome. It still downloads the file, even with the "not secure" message,

Firefox doesn't show that message.

Incredible pieces of work! Puts me in mind of the early Dorling Kindersley illustrated books. Technical content, design, photography, all top quality, even in the 'low res' versions!

Well done sir!
